Housing Waitlist

So apparently dorms are limited this year, and there is a housing waitlist. I'm probably dead last, since I submitted my contract at the last minute. =/ I hope I get a dorm, as I will be paying with financial aid.

I also submitted my contract right on the deadline. Although I do have a contract, I haven’t been assigned a dorm yet. Looks like we’re in the same boat.

You can do an apartment with financial aid.

I got an email today asking if I’d like to cancel my contract. NOPE! Still waiting for my dorm notice.

Yeah, I got that email too. It was really random.

I do know that there are certain apartments that you can pay with financial aid, and that is a viable option, but I am quite ignorant on the apartments contiguous to UT. The only ones I am aware of are the Castillian and Doby Center, and that is because they have sent me information through the mail. I would prefer a dorm, but I guess it is time for me to do some research on apartments as a precaution.

I also received the email, and I am still waiting out my dorm assignment. =[

I was notified through yahoo messenger, and I erroneously thought it was my dorm assignment. What a disappointment when they were trying to get me to cancel my contract. =/

No you can pay any apartment with fin aid. After they put your fin aid towards tuition, the rest goes into your bank account as cash which you can use towards an apartment.

At least that is what they did with my summer aid.

What if I still haven’t activated the CASH program? I am under the impression that you need to upgrade your UTEID, and I am still 17 for four more days.

You can do it with a parent if you are underage.

Did you not go to orientation? That’s when people upgrade usually.

I did, but you need to be 18 to upgrade it personally or have your parents present. My parents stayed in Houston and I commuted while staying with friends.

Last paragraph.

Castilian will take financial aid and they’ll waive part of their confirmation fee if you are stuck paying a fee somewhere else (like on campus) to get out of your contract – so you don’t end up paying more for housing in the end.

Would you say I have any chances at procuring a dorm on campus? I wouldn’t care if it were on Jester (initially that was my first choice anyway), but I would prefer to live on campus.

One other option maybe a Coop. They may or may not take freshmen but you can always try. My son is doing this in the fall. It’s also less expensive.

If I use the ICC Austin: Affordable Co-operative Housing, can I use Financial Aid loans towards paying for it?

private dorm like castilian or dobie is better than a co-op for sure!

Received email today that they are still sending out dorm assignments. They are honoring the contracts for on-campus housing.

when do we get our housing bill?

“private dorm like castilian or dobie is better than a co-op for sure!”

OMG SO NOT TRUE.

I am at the Castilian right now. Hate it. The food sucks, a lot. And if I lived here for a year it’d cost 8k. Verses the new co-op I am living in next year that will be 4.5k for a year.

“If I use the ICC Austin: Affordable Co-operative Housing, can I use Financial Aid loans towards paying for it?”

Yes, but those kinda suck in quality. The bigger ones tend to be better, unless you want the smaller community type feel. I’d do these but it’s so late now, everything that is good is full:

http://www.collegehouses.coop/

(Halstead, Nueces and Laruel are the better ones. 21st is mega shady. Taos accepts non-students and does not do screening/interviews of applicants so you might want to consider that.)

“when do we get our housing bill?”

First housing payment not due til October. You’ll get a bill around then.
