So how does this whole registering for classes thing work?

If you've been onto my.fordham.edu lately, you've probably noticed we can now register for classes and a bunch of other fun stuff! Yay! Haha, but my question is, how does this whole thing work? And when are we supposed to start doing all of this, especially if we want to be assured we'll get our choice of classes?

It's pretty confusing, to me at least. I have no idea what the classes entail, how many classes we're supposed to take per semester, or anything. And are we supposed to do this through OASIS (which we don't have access to, and supposedly won't until August?) So basically: How does this work?

As a first-semester freshman, you do not register for your own classes. Your schedule is fixed based on a questionnaire that you fill out, and also on a math proficiency exam you take sometime during the summer holidays.

To answer a few of your questions, you’re supposed to take five classes a semester, although you can take six with permission from your dean. After the spring semester of 2009, OASIS is rendered useless. Class registration, grades, financial aid and other school related things are accessed through the Fordham Portal (my.fordham.edu).

the amount of classes depend on what college you’re in. cba requires 5 classes every semester where as fordham college does not. it’s important you make sure you don’t listen to what other students tell you because there is a different in requirements between both schools are far as registration goes and number of classes. your dean will explain all that during orientation.

you can change your classes on my.fordham once you get your schedule which is usually picked out by your dean. in essence you don’t have much of a say in your classes as far as getting good professors go, but you can change it if you want to go into another class using a conditional withdrawal.

to take more 6 classes you need a 3.5 gpa and then permission from your dean. basically you’re not going to be taking 6 classes your first semester.

don’t worry about your classes. you gotta take the same core classes every other freshman has to take.

On another thread, someone mentioned that LC kids get to choose their classes, rather than have them assigned by the Dean. Is this true?

it might be. the best way to find out is to contact the dean. always verify whatever someone tells you by contacting the school.

Thanks for the help, BP-TheGuy88

For first semester of freshman year, students are sent a questionnaire over the summer indicating their interests within the core. Based on the answers to that questionnaire, the Fordham administration creates a schedule for you.

There are different requirements based upon what school the student is attending. College of Business Administration students take 5 classes every semester for 4 years. Fordham College at Rose Hill students typically take 5 3-credit classes each semester for freshman and sophomore year, and 4 4-credit classes junior and senior year. To be considered a full time student, you must be taking at least 12 credits. If you wish to take more than the normal number of classes per semester, you must get special permission from the dean.

As for registering after first semester freshman year, students pick their own classes, times and professors, with guidance from their freshman advisors via my.fordham.edu.
