so how good are my chances, really?

I applied to Stanford kind of spur of the moment in December, and am not as familiar with it as some of the Ivy league schools. I would just like to know what my chances are here. Maybe a % chance???

Public HS in Minnesota... not very competitive at all... nobody ever goes to Ivies or anything. I had a friend from last year who was rejected at Stanford and he got a 33 ACT and had near a 4.0 unweighted GPA.

Class Rank 2/300
ACT: 35 Composite, S36 M36 E35 R31
SAT: 2250 Composite, M800 CR760 W690
WGPA: 4.14 or so
SAT II: 800 Math II, 750 Lit, 700 US History

Core Course Load: I am taking all seven AP courses offered... I have the hardest schedule of anybody at my school

Calculus AB (5)
English Lang & Composition (5)
Statistics (5)
Art History (5)
Chemistry (2)

Senior Year APs:
AP Physics
AP US Government
also took a Calculus II class at the local university this semester... got an A

Recommendations are very strong, especially from my AP English teacher

I felt like my Stanford Essays were really strong, especially the Why Stanford? question. My common app essay was about my decision to quit basketball in order to do other activities that I liked better, and the difficulty of making this decision (because I am 6'10" tall). I felt (and my AP English teacher agreed) that it was very strong.

ECs:
Varsity Basketball (10,11)
Academic Decathlon (10,11,12) Captain (12)
Team qualified for Nationals (10,11)
Senior Class VP (12)
Novice Policy Debate (12)
Work experience (9,10,11,12)
Link Crew Leader (12)
National Honor Society (11,12)
Private Piano Lessons (1-12)
Church Group (5-12)
Church Mission Trips to Guatemala, Michigan, Minnesota

Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot!

just wondering, but if you are "...not as familiar with it as some of the Ivy league schools," how was your "Why Stanford?" so good?

Well, considering you exist, your chances don't look so great. What was last years admit rate, 9.5% or something?

NO ONE has good chances at getting into Stanford.

That being said, your application looks fairly strong. Good luck.

wow 6'10. impressive. I bet you were pretty uncoordinated though. You should've just stayed then got recruited by Stanford :p. Looking at your profile, your academics are strong, but you don't have that "special" quality, Stanford is looking for. I say you have a low chance. Look at the EA thread and see the competition you are going up against.

eatsalot-
i am very interested in geography and so I wrote about how I would like to be a part of Stanford's international relations program. In my first post, I intended to say that I was unfamiliar with the admissions process at Stanford and what they look for. Sorry for the confusion.

haha ruskie... my coordination is decent, but I'm sure Stanford would have no interest in my athletic abilities :D

I'm looking at the low Chemistry score and the fact that you quit basketball. I think continuing to play basketball AND having other non-academic ECs looks a lot better.

I think you look just fine-good stats and if you are right about your essays, why not? just realize the competition is enormous.

After comparing your stats to the average pool, I would say (assuming your personal statements and recommendations are as good as any admitted students') that you'd have a 5-15% chance of getting in.

I'd say you have a pretty good chance.

6-7% chance

i say you have a decent shot, but with the record number of apps this year, no one really knows. can you chance me please? i know i have like a 1% chance but i just want an opinion :)

4.62 weighted gpa at school
3.96 unweighted gpa
Test scores:
SAT-2140
Math-760
CR-650
Writing-730

SAT II-
Math 2-690
Biology M-730

Extra Curriculars
California Scholarship Federation, Tutoring, Teach class at homeless shelter, USA volunteer for Medicine in Action, Students against destructive decisions,

-Top 4% of class
private high school...very challenging

I think my essays were very unique

I'm taking 5 AP classes this year (hardest course load of anyone at my school)--and i just got my grades...5.0 weighted gpa

race/ethnicity-middle eastern/pakistani.........i know this will work against me

location-northern cal

thanks

^GPA-wise good.
SAT-wise good, except CR score is a bit low.
Math 2 slightly low.
Bio SAT good.

I would say you definitely will be considered, but nothing stands out from what you have written. Your credentials seem mediocre.

But you say you have written very unique essays, so hopefully they will liven up your application and present you as a multi-dimensional person. If your essays are truly unique then you definitely have a decent chance.

Good Luck!
