Okay, I admit it, I got a 2400. But how much does this really help me? I only ask because from having read this board, I've heard crazy claims along the lines of, 1600s have a 40-50% chance of getting in, as opposed to the about 10% chance of everyone else. Is this true? Where do these numbers come from? Or is a big SAT number just that- one portion of an application with much more information in it?

it's hard for anyone on this board to say. in my opinion, the people that get 2400s have so much stuff going for them in the first place, and that's why they have such high admit rates (i think you are right about that percent) compared to others. then again, a 2400 probably won't be different from a 2350 or similar score.

It can only help, but it does not guarentee anything. It's not like winning an Intel Science Award or something equally amazing, those I'm sure have an almost 100% chance of admittance.
A perfect SAT score is great to have, but if you don't have anything else, you can be rejected just like anyone else.
I'm sure you have excellent EC's and awards too, in which case you shouldn't have a problem.
