To all those students last May who were complaining about how difficult the AP English Language test was, what did your scores turn out to be? Better than you thought? Worse?

Worse...oh well, I realized that I am not good at writing essays :(. But I heard the test is going to be different this year.

Yeah, it's gonna be different, but my score (4) turned out better than I thought.

4

I didn't think it was that hard, and I didn't take the class. Meh.

How is it different? If you read the posts online at CC, many people contest that this is one of the hardest tests. Is it true?

The types of essays you have to write this year are going to be different. If you are naturally good at english, you will get a 4 easily. No doubt about it. It isn't a test that you can study for by cramming. Natural skill or you will have to hone your skill over time.

The essays are going to be different in that they're doing something different with argument, I think. I remember my teacher mentioning last year how students wouldn't have enough evidence so now they're going to present facts you have to incorporate (like History's DBQs). I'm not really sure, I may be completely wrong but that's what I heard...

I did better than I thought, esp. since I got an 89 first semester and an 89 the second (but it went up w/ extra credit b/c my teacher had a policy about 2 89s haha). I ended up getting a 5 (and one of the few people who did in my class) even though people who got high As got 4s. My teacher didn't like me (she hated my sister xD), obviously lol XD

I got a 5.

I took some really hard practice tests (was getting around 15-40 percent right on MC, hahaha). But I guess I just really focused on the test day, and I'm good at essays. Just hope that you get some readings that are interesting to you... it helped. If you have some sort of positive emotions for what you are reading, you will do better.

What practice tests did you guys use?

I hear Cliffs is good for review. . .

I got a 5. My teacher was insane and made us take practice timed-writings all the time. and graded harshly. I didn't think I wrote as well on the actual exam as I had on the practices. There were two strange essays about flamingoes and a 18th century piece on "those who have no money" that had only 3 total sentences.

I think the best preparation is to practice writing the types of essays on the exam under the exam time constraints.

agree w/ acraig
i got a 5 thanks to my teacher's frequent timed-writings and MC practice

Oh, I got a 2. My English teacher told me that he was "shocked and dismayed." I think that's the last time I spoke to him.

A 5. I thought that I was going to get either a 4 or a 5, 4 being a worst-case scenario since I always did well on the essays/tests in class. We had some practice tests, but it's not like I studied extensively before the test.
