so i just bought a dell laptop... good deal or not?

If that's the case, then your fine. The only thing is that I would have said to go with a laptop that's smaller, but I don't know if that's a big deal for you. Performance wise it's fine though.

2.0 Ghz is perfectly fine imo, you'll love yourself when you multitask like crazy. Something like surfing online, instant messaging, word document'ing, downloading something, and playing music.

But on the other hand I'd agree that's wayyy expensive. I bought a laptop with the same specs, except the RAM, I have 1 GB ram, for less than USD1000.

We should also keep in mind here the Dell warranties; a Dell laptop's cost can increase by up to $400 by getting 4 year accidental coverage for a Dell laptop.

where does one find these oh-so-necessary coupons?

www.xpbargains.com, for one. Click on the link/tab at the top of the screen for Dell Coupons.

What are you guys talking about?
The 2 gigs of ram (which I agree should have been bought separately, also because you can use 667MHz ram with a Core Duo) costs exta, so does the (2) 9-cell batteries, as does the 7200 RPM HD upgrade.

2 gigs of ram is the optimal amount TODAY, not tommorow, or in another year. Especially if you plan to run vista. 1 gig is the minimum you want to have.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 - This is standard with the E1405, there is no upgrade.

Also, IMO, 14" widescreen laptops are the best size for all situations.

Have you seen a 12" WXGA laptop before?

That's because you bought a 1000t, which is a recently discontinued model (albeit not a bad one).

RobotFOOD, you did NOT get ripped off. People, please do your research before you say such things.

yeah its a bit high price, since i paid $1700 for the E1705 laptop with the 7800gtx graphics card ($2500 before coupons). its a decent deal and you will like the laptop, but the graphics card kinda sucks. Also dont listen to people who tell you to buy a mac, you will be spending a **** load more money for less computing power for an operating system that can run on the E1705 (mac os 10 can run on standard x86 machines, and it runs faster than the fastest apple core duo machine).

deathsadvocate: how is a mac less computing power when a macbook has the same processor speed.

Media Center Edition = No-No

..Wuuuuut?! The dv1000t is a discontinued model?? I bought it only three months ago in Taiwan.. where models come out faster than the States. And it was the newest model then. Could you give me a link or something for me to see myself?

[edit] And as CNET says, the release date: 2/20/06 . Are models discontinued after four months?

It's more about the Graphics card. When playing games, the GPU is by far the most important part of your computer, and is also important in video and picture thingys. 7800 GTX kills the X1400 (but also sucks up a huge amount of power).

The dv1000t is an update of the dv1000, which was released solely for the incorporation of the new Core Duo chips. Don't freak out that you bought one. The new model (dv2000t) isn't much different, except they changed the design and took off some of the shortcuts. I also heard that the battery life isn't as good. Not many people have the new model yet, try a google search if you want to look for it.

I'm actually considering buying a 1000t if I can find one for a good price.

Haha nice link.

Funny indeed.

And ew the 2000t is gross. HP made a baaaaad move imo. Ah well, at least there's hopefully a smaller chance of mine being stolen since it's not the newest model anymore. Gross specs compared to my lovely wonderful awesome gorgeous 1000t. =P Ugly too. And there are some amazingly good deals online, I distinctly recall seeing a 1000t on sale at a site for USD 970+.

What's the warranty like on that thing? I'm hoping you have 4 years of next day, on-site service, 4 years of phone support, and 4 years of complete care built into that price.

We-ell.. I've got this nice sticker on the bottom left hand side that says I got three years warranty, 30 minutes quick repair, and one year to the house service. Keep in mind that I bought this in Taiwan though, so it definitely doesn't apply to the States.

Damn, that's, well to putit mildly, a ripoff. Did you loook at the latest saales from Bestbuy, fry's, Circuitcity, Compusa, or any electronic store in your area? They usually have some hawt saes (though they usually consist of $300+ on rebates) and, to be honest, and not trying to be a macsheep, but for that price you can get a Macbook and Window and still have 300+ spending money lleft over.

I'd recommend using Overstock.com
