So I went from a 1320 to 2220...and?

My situation is a little different from some of you becasue Im already in college and I'm looking to transfer. I took the SATs in November and raised my 1320 (720 M 600 V) to a 2220 ( 800 CR, 720 M, 700 W). Do any of you know how much this will affect me? I know some colleges like NYU won't look at it, but Im not sure about most of the other colleges (specifically UPenn, UChicago, Northwestern...). Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

sorry man but i have no clue icould ask my cousin though

It should improve your chance significantly. 2220 is a great score!

that verbal jump is incredible! It will really improve your chances.

Thanks. I mean if I were applying as a HS student it would be great but I dont know how much it will affect me as a college student...

jacknjill since u got a 800 in CR.. please gimme sum tips.. really need them.. am struggling wit the vocab.. did u by-heart huge lists of words??

um, your scores don't line up, in the first set, you have two scores, in the second three, what am I missing? When did you take the first set, back in the beginning of 2005? Before the change> that is what I am guessing... and why are yo taking the sat if you are already in school>?

Just curious how that works

The OP is a transfer student comparing scores from admission to the OP's current school to those recently taken to be submitted for transfer applications. The first score set is from the old SAT and the second from the new.

ur score is really good and shall increase chances at most universities including ive leagues. whats amazing is ur balance-800 CR, 700W,720M.
this is much better than the flawed scores that many people recive with two scores in region of 750-800 and the last one quite low like around 550...
best of luck..

Ok..um..one of your scores is the old SAT, while the other is the new...therefore it isn't really like a 900 point jump since one is worth 800 more than the other one to begin with. And also, since you're transferring, why are you taking the SATs?

chicago will look at them, but out of all top schools, they (reportedly) are less concerned with test scores -- show your love on those essays!

I never said that it was a 900 point increase...but my V/CR score did increase from 600 to an 800, and I got a 700 on the new writing section. I was wondering how this would affect me. Why did I take it? I’m not happy with where I am college wise and I wanted to do everything possible to increase my chances to get into other competitive colleges. I took it November so it was only a couple of months into the semester (I’m a freshman btw) and I didn’t really study that much for it, only 2-3 weeks to get focused. I didn't study for math at all because I didn't think I could raise my score all too much (I always got 780-800 on the practice tests I took last year when I was preparing for the SAT's and never got above a 720 on the real thing so I figured it was a test taking flaw or something and I’d waste my time trying to get higher). I focused on the CR part and I just solved a lot of tests, that’s about it I guess. Sorry if I'm not more helpful. I guess I got smarter during my English course :P . When I was in HS, I would try to memorize words and everything but that didn't really seem to work out for me.

Actually, here is one thing that helped me I think... I had a friend who had a 1540 or something with a 800 V so I asked her to help me practice. We took a couple of practice tests together over coffee and she explained to me her rationale for her answers. I guess I just changed my thinking strategy to match hers and it worked.

beck86nj, thanks for clarifying.

Lastly, I didn't focus too much on the writing section because I've heard (esp for UChicago) that they don't really care about it too much because they don't know what it means yet.

Thanks for your time and good luck!

wow! good job

How did you improve so much in CR? That's a really nice jump and it's something I could use...

Nice! :)
I know a lot of schools usually just take account for the highest composite score, so you make a great applicant for the schools you are interested in.

One thing people should do is plan ahead. A key thing with CR is luck. Sometimes you just get a killer one, other times you get off ez. I went from 700 to 760 then to a 770. In my school we do Vocabulary Workshop so my vocab was strong. Also use RocketReview for CR. For CR and Writing it is really good. One thing is to take the reading literally, your own knowledge often ruins your chance of getting a good score.

Lastly another good strategy is to figure out what colleges you are interested in (as a junior), then call them up regarding their SAT policy. Most take the best of one section from any test date. This way you can focus on 1 section at a time. Of course dont bomb the others, but say if you get 800,700,660, then 710,790,680 and finally 730,710,780 then your cumulative will be 800,790,780. This way the amount of pressure on you is alot lighter.
