Hey, my best friend and I both got waitlisted for Columbia's class of 2013 and we were wondering how many other people were also on the waitlist, anyone have an idea? We'd really appreciate it! (not for a particular reason, just morality I guess).

Thanks! :)

I was waitlisted…
I just responded with a no…

I was on the list… I applied Fu
Columbia is my dream school… and the result tortures

I also got waitlisted, applied to Columbia College. Got rejected everywhere else (except Michigan, my safety school), so this is kind of my last hope. Anybody know anything about Columbia’s typical waitlist stats? On the website, it says it varies each year, but I’m sure somebody who’s been paying attention could figure out an average rate of acceptance for waitlistees? I also read an article saying that with the current economy, more people might decline to go, leading to more waitlisted people getting a shot. Any validity to that?

P.S. An odd sidenote: all the schools that rejected me gave me an interview, while Columbia did not. I thought that might have meant that I had no shot at Columbia. I thought my interviews went well, but maybe I jagged them hard, whatever…

Waitlisted, as well!

waitlisted as well. would love to know what my chances are now…

I really wanted to know what should I include as a matter of fact in the waitlist letter.

I got waitlisted as well. I read somewhere that in 2006, 29 people were accepted from their waitlist. I wonder how many were on it to start with. I also heard somewhere that they waitlisted more people than they accepted. Don’t know if this is true.

I read in Pricneton reviews 361 best colleges(2006), that Columbia accepts 2% of their waitlist…
Well, why the hell bother to put so many people on the waitlist if they only accept 1 out of 50???

I’m also on it btw…

Waitlisted as well…
And waitlisted at Dartmouth…
Ugh I was hoping for a definite yes or no yesterday… I think this is worse!

Maybe if I send the admissions staff a warm batch of home made cookies they’ll get me off the wait list.

Question: the extra supplement, does Columbia prefer snail mail over email or vice versa? Johns Hopkins specifically stated they wanted snail mail, but I didn’t read anything like that in Columbia’s decision letter.

i was wait listed too…what does Columbia want in that supplementary letter??

wait listed but i got through Wharton so i’ll perhaps not enroll in the active wait list… good luck to all of u who got wait listed…u all are fantastically talented people and am sure u will end up in the ‘right’ place…

yeah…what exactly are we supposed to put in the supplementary letter?

I was waitlisted as well, and I applied to the Fu School of Engineering. After seeing the rejection decision online for Princeton, I thought I would be rejected from Columbia. I really hope I get in, what if we don’t send in that supplementary letter, does anyone know if that would undermine our chances? Well, if If I don’t get in, I’m good to go. They recommend we send our “Intend to Register” letter and I’m most likely sending mine to UC Berkeley :]

“…Then write that letter, and send by both e-mail and snail mail. In the letter, reiterate what you said about this being your first choice, and about being happy to lose your second-choice deposit. Tell her three of your talents or interests that you think would add value to her campus, like experience in tutoring disadvantaged students or a gift for organizing debates. Tell her three aspects of her campus that would add value to your life, such as the entrepreneurs club or the study abroad program. Then send it off and pray.”

From another cc post.

Is it true that we get much less financial aid at Columbia if you are accepted from the waitlist?

Is the Columbia waitlist binding? If I stay on it and later get accepted, can I still turn down the offer if I later decide that I like another college better (or if I get off a different waitlist) ?

topoftheworld, that is a VERY good question, especially if they do offer less financial aid for students off the waitlist, as albin4ik seems to think :S

Albin, what other post did you get that advice from? It’d be good to read it, I guess, because I think the letter is a major part of the waitlist. It’s another chance, since apparently our applications were not enough. If they really do waitlist more people than they accept, that’s pretty cruel, but at least I didn’t get rejected. And I have a couple of other schools that I may really want to go to anyway, but Columbia…ah, it’s Columbia. Beautiful.

Anyway, good luck everyone!
