Yeah, I've already mailed off all my applications, but I'm wondering what sorts of schools you guys think would fit me, and see how they match with my choices. I'm interested in journalism, and either a minor or double major in political science or history or something similar. My stats are very good (good enough for top schools) but my EC's are lacking a LOT. I'm editor in chief of h.s. newspaper and an editor of the yearbook, but those are classes for credit so I'm not sure if they count as EC's even though they both take up a TON of time outside class. I also ride horses but don't compete much (I did h.s. equestrian team jr. year and it was, to say the least, a disaster. I am definitely not cut out for showing). I volunteer, about 20-30 hours a year, with youth baseball (little league 9th-10th grade and american legion 11th) and went on a month-long mission trip in 2004.

Basically, I want a semi-large or large university (5-6,000 minimum) that's either not too expensive or offers a lot of scholarship money, preferably in the West Coast or the North. I want a strong journalism program and a decent social sciences department too. I don't drink, and so I'm a little wary about big party schools where all social activities revolve around drinking. A school with an IHSA equestrian team that doesn't require its members to compete would be a big plus too.

Based on this, what would you suggest?

Miami University (Oxford, Ohio)
14,500 students undegraduate focus (under 1000 grads)
Very Good Social Science, Good Journalism
A lot to do, D1 Sports, many students don't drink (many are very conservative)
Equestrian (In fact, I know students who ride there):

I am not sure on all the details however.

You will fall in love with this school if you visit

Thanks! I like the look of their equestrian team--is their barn actually on campus?

U of Delaware would be good for journalism--don't know about equestrian team there.

Syracuse has an excellent school of journalism--I know the surrounding area has horses.

Northwestern is the biggest in journalism, I think.

the barn is on the drive into the campus (from the east), right before it starts. I would say a 5-10 min walk
i saw this on the site as well: Miami plans to build a new Equestrian Center in the future!

I think Miami fits the description of the school you are looking for very well, and I am sure you would fall in love if you visited.

Where are you from?
