So I'm freaking out.

I "applied" to SFS as EA.
I just got an e-mail from them saying they never received my application.
My crazy guidance counselor makes us send all our apps through her.
She, apparently lied to me and never sent mine and lost it.
I had hand-written it too, and my teachers dont have copies of my recommendations.
I really don't know what to do and I'm really freaked out.
And advice would be much appreciated.
I've already left a voicemail at the office of undergrad admissions, but I don't know what to say or do...

And also understand that GU is my absolute top, top choice, and if I got in, I wasn't going to apply anywhere else, so this was really, really important.

do you not have any copies of your essay or any of the other parts of your application?

Have you talked to your counselor? Maybe there's still a chance that it is at school somewhere? At the worst you will have to do it over and submit it for RD - add a note from your school that it wasn't submitted EA due to their error and it will at least show that you are very committed. If it is your school's fault they should do whatever they can to make up for it.
As for not applying anywhere else that's not too smart. You need a backup plan. What were you planning to do if you received a deferral in mid December? At my daughter's school the deadline for transcript requests has long passed - at this point you have to have all your schools selected - no exceptions. With all the articles about rejections of kids with top scores you can't be certain of anything.

well, I was just going to wait and see from GU in December, then apply to the other schools--I have their apps done, but I wasn't going to submit the money for them and waste it if I got in to GU.
Evidently, I have to submit them now because I won't be finding out early.
Thank you for all the good advice tho!

Just apply regular admission. It shouldn't really affect your chances. It does mean that you will have to apply to other places, but that may be a good thing. Your opinions about different schools may change and you might end up being glad you have options.

I'd be all over my counselor. Like ***? It is her JOB to make sure it gets out. Also you're supposed to get a certificate of mailing, so that if this happens you can prove you sent it in my such and such a date. Obviously she didn't do that. Very unfortunate for you. I don't know what you can do.

but speaking of this, i know that they received my application (i did the tracking thing and signing postcard thing with the postal service), but how do i know if i am missing anything? they don't have an application status check on their website- should i just call them? Or how do i know if they received all my materials on time? gah...so many questions, sorry.

Audra--they will e-mail you if they are missing anything.
And my dad and I went in to talk to my counselor this morning...she called in sick today...
So a clueless secretary helped me out but my counselor hadn't made copies of any of my teacher reccs....but I saw the one she wrote me on accident, and it was really bad. I can't really say anything, but she put me down as top 10% for all of them even tho I'm top3%...oh well.
And I called GU, and explained that it is totally, TOTALLY not my fault, so they are letting me still about EA
And I'm finding another counselor to do my other apps to other schools.
Man, thanks for all the support guys!

That's cool there still lettting u apply EA.

So your counselor put you down as top 10% instead of top 3% in the categories like "Self-Confidence," "Leadership," and "Warmth of Personality"? I wonder how realistically colleges can look at such recommendations, considering some schools have amazing candidates and others only so-so.

yeah, you're right, but if it comes down neck and neck, those things matter, especially since most counselors put down the best for every student.

You and your Parents need to go and see the head of the counseling department andPrincipal at your high school. I never let the school send out my sons apps I had them all returned to me in a sealed envelope and I fed exed every app out Holding the school accountable to date deadlines. You ned to pressure your school and your parents need to get involved and make copies of everything!! good luck to you < hope you get everyhting staightened out. A high school adminsistrator needs to make a call to Geogetown admissions on your behalf!

all my school does is send out transcripts and the profile- i do everything else, so that it doesnt put a load on the college office, which, if every student in my class had three applications, the college office would have to keep track of 240 applications, which is an unnecessary strain on their part, and my school is on the small side. just send it in on your own, that way there is no question of deadlines being met. I also suggest that you get a tracking number as well as sending it priority mail, that way it's fast, secure, and reliable.

Thanks for all the tips everyone, I did get the entire issue worked out and had a meeting with the principal of my school, and GU is aware that the mixup was not my fault and are allowing me to apply early.
Unfortunately, I'm still trying to decide whether to go to my International Baccalaureate school counselor that messed up my application or to go to a regular guidance counselor at my school that I've never met before in my life.
I've completely all of my other applications online, so hopefully no more mishaps with happen!
