Oh sorry hahah I just consider Fevans as one dorm but the application for both of them is the same. I asked and so far there are around 125 students coming :)

I want to go, but prom is on the same weekend, and it is pretty important to my girlfriend! And it is just so expensive to fly/drive down to Atlanta, and then have to bail out early on Saturday. It would be a pain for my parents too. =/

I am so bummed!!!

Well… not that you can go… but if you could have - Emory pays for transportation if you were to fly.

Have fun at prom!

Will you be able to make it to any of the other excepted students days?

I was not aware that they would be paying for flights. Maybe I missed that when reading the information?

I will most likely go to one of the other visit days, but I don’t know which one yet!

It was the part about financial assistance which the majority of people qualified for, you just had to have all of your financial paper work done. Great! Glad you’ll be coming to an accepted student day at least :)

I had my financial aid completed, but I am fortunate enough to be apart of the upper middle class, so I probably received none. =P

And thanks again!

@Melanie22 wow you really did just make me uber excited (even more than I already was) to go to Essence. What are some of the highlights for you when you attended Essence for the first time? I can’t wait to get there…I am really hoping to be in Longstreet or Fevans!! Also, any tips for a future college freshie (oh how I missed the title of ‘freshman’…sarcasm)??

Thanks a bunch and will definitely say hi if I happen to find you!!!

I’m so jealous of you guys :(

Getting the good treatment, early decisions, paid flights, higher chance of getting in even without the grades :S

Seems like the minorities get the first class treatment while the asians/whites fly coach.

Damn you :(

When I attended Essence I really enjoyed being able to go to a class and see what the typical class at Emory would be like. I also loved Showtime which was a dance showcase of all the different multi-cultural groups here on campus. The alpha party was sooo fun too hahah.

Tips? Don’t take the amount of work you have to do here lightly. Some kids come here fresh from high school where they were the top of their class, school was never really that hard for them, and they had a little TOO much confidence that that would translate well over to the Emory course load. Classes here are difficult and they will definitely challenge you academically so be sure to keep up with your readings and assignments because once it starts to get out of control, it can be quite the uphill battle to get on top of stuff again. Another tip would be to just be yourself when you first get here, you’ll meet lots of people when you first get here because everybody is kind of searching for their new group of friends so be social and amicable. Other than that any other tips I can give you you have probably heard a thousand times over by parents, friends, teachers, guidance counselors, or during college visits.

Yes, definitely say hi if you see me!

I’m attending Essence of Emory, but I’m wondering if anyone has gotten their financial aid package yet…

@Melanie22 thank you sooooooo much for your advice! I really appreciate your help! Can’t wait!!

@Sii757, if you check the financial aid section in your Opus account, you can check your offer there…hope that helps!

thanks a lot! i was able to find it

is there going to be a facebook group for us this year?

@Sii757…great and no problem! Also, they do have a Facebook group for us. You can check out Emory University and also Redirecting...
ENJOY!!

Does anyone know what time we are expected there on Friday?

*Thursday and from 4-7pm

I know that this is an odd question but is there a particular dress code for us or just casual (like a regular student)?? Thanks.

JackW93:

Seriously? I’m one of the top students at my school. I didn’t get in “the easy way”. I think all of us are a little insulted. I know I am.

^^I agree. What Jack said was pretty condescending! I absolutely hate it when people say the reason I got in is because I’m black! It completely disregards my academic achievements!

This one girl in my class asked how I could have possibly gotten into UVa and another girl responded by saying “well he is black”! Both girls failed to realize that my class ranking was higher than both of theirs!

It’s just so demeaning!

@africana94 I don’t think so. I’m just packing jeans and t-shirts, nothing formal. It’s up to you, I guess.
