So my school uses Unweighted GPA for class rank

Because of this I won’t be considered ELC. Using my weighted GPA, I would be in top 4% but since my school uses Unweighted GPA for ranks I’m only in the top 10%.
Am I screwed?

well what do you mean by "screwed"?

you won't get into ELC, if that's what you mean by it.

.. what kind of school uses weighted GPA to rank?

my school uses unweighted too. not a big deal if you're not ELC anyway..

My highschool used weighted GPA to rank (I made ELC); I actually think most high schools do it this way.

mine doesnt either. All the people who take really easy classes are in the top 5% and everybody else gets screwed.

You won't be screwed. Heck, the people that took the easy way out and got easy classes and ELC instead probably got screwed for schools like SD, LA, and Cal. If you have the UC GPA to get into schools, ELC would've just been icing on the cake. If you don't, you lose this crutch of "Oh I have a 50% chance of getting into Berkeley by grace of ELC alone" mentality, but I know loads of people at school that got in anyways. ELC doesn't make up absolute majorities of admits (I was scared about that too, thinking that 90% of UCSD admits were ELC @_@), it only helps guarantee for second and third tier UCs and with Regents/Chancellor's Scholarships.

Dang that sucks that you guys don't get ELC then...that's like 300 points in the UC San Diego point system.

^ thats what i'm talking about...

I was told by my councilor that they send info on top 10% to the UC system. Than UC decides who is ELC (4%) at our school. And when they decide they give you UNCAPPED bonus points for all your UC honors, AP, CC academic UC transferable classes.
I have to say I'm not 100% sure how this process works. Check with your school.

^
Thanks for your information. Anyone else's school like this? I'm going to talk with my counselor this week.

For more information about ELC please see: http://www.ucop.edu/sas/elc/

Grade Point Averages

"For the purposes of ELC evaluation, UC uses an uncapped GPA based on UC-approved course work taken in the 10th and 11th grades. High schools may use any method of calculating a GPA to rank students, as long as the method identifies their top students. "

So ELC is based off uncapped GPA. Ok!

I didn't know SAT Scores are considered on ELC..

They aren't oO;; My friend had a 1900 and she was ELC. My other friend got a 2280 and he wasn't ELC (like by 5 ranks or so). The only thing that matters is your GPA.

They do. Look at this

Look at the section labeled "test section"
http://www.ucop.edu/sas/elc/transcriptinfo.html

dont worry bout it.

I wasn't ELC but i got into all the UC's.

Your performance in AP classes and your test scores will show them how good you are.
