<p>@wantit - It is an old thread, but essentially all the advice given on the first pages applies to you perfectly. Especially the part about making the strongest effort possible to make friends and get involved in campus groups. The best thing for homesickness is staying busy, having friends, and Skype.</p>
<p>Personally, and this is JMHO although I feel strongly about it, I think getting away from home is one of the most important aspects of college, when it is possible. I went 700 miles from home. Friends of mine that stayed home to go to school seemed like they had never left high school when I came back after a year. We were worlds apart already. Sometimes for financial or family reasons such as illness it isn’t possible to do what I did, but since you have been accepted to an amazing school and have a chance to explore a completely new environment, I hope you can “suck it up” (I mean that in the nicest way) and go for it. I am nearly positive you won’t regret it.</p>
