So, uh, does this mean I didn't get into NASS?

hey colbybuss, hang in there...don't give up kiddo on your dream....persevere and keep us all in the loop, OK??

colbybuss, I'll betcha $100 you get in next year.

colbybuss- no doubt this is dissapointing- but it is hardly the end of the journey- just one of those nagging bumps in the road-

there is always next year (which, trust me, will come faster than you can possibly imagine)- if you decide to toss your hat into the arena again- which I hope you will, if it is in your heart to do so. You have some time to think about that decision-

And if not, then I wish you the very best at whatever shool you choose- it's all good.

Best of luck to you!

i got into NASS and the Millitary one too (i applied to both).
My mom wouldn't sign the thing and the deadline to send the stuff in was April 15th!!!! so i can't go.

yea, like i posted in another thread, im going to go to the Naval Academy, its just a matter of when . . .

my determination will outlast any rejection letter i get, because if anything, its just a push to do better, which in the end, makes me a better person none the less

ColbyBuss: good for you! do a great job over this year! Like I said, it will go faster than you can imagine-

Ultima,

They apparently extended the deadline 2 weeks to 29 APR 06. And apparently you can just "send it in ASAP".

But DQMOT.

I applied on 02 FEB 06. I still haven't received any acceptance nor rejection letter. I guess it takes 7-10 days from postmark date (which they say was 12 APR 06) so I'm hoping that I get it today:). The suspense is killing me. I really hope I get in though.

My son was declined on summer seminar. Like the rest of you, our disappointment is keen. Although intellectually we understand that the sole purpose of NASS is not to ‘entertain’ only those who are set on attending USNA, but more so those who may be undecided, it is still a frustrating outcome. Especially when my son has known others in his NJROTC unit with lesser grades, lesser SATs etc. who got to go….and they did NOT get appointments down the road.
As all of you have said, NASS is one of USNA’s recruiting tools and that a known quantity like my son who has attended both their football and wrestling camps maybe shouldn’t ‘need’ to visit again, but still, it does take a bit of the wind from your sails for a moment.
When he called, the admission’s office indicated that he would get a letter in May on steps he should take to improve his chances for appointment – is this a generic letter and what do they send the NASS attendees who have less ECs, lower scores, etc?

My NASS rejection letter was a generic one.

Whatever you do, don't let your son slack off in the beginning of senior year. Those grades could make or break him if he's borderline. Continue with any sports he's doing, and tell him to try to be a Captain if at all possible.

Any kind of community service is excellent also. It's even better if he's the one who organizes the service.

He's still working super hard and given that he is also considering other top schools and NROTC, will not slack off. I think his grades are OK (3.8 unweighted GPA, all honors) but his math SAT is at 620 (verbal 710) so he may opt to take them again.
On the captain issue, our high school teams vote on team captain at the season's end so we will have to see how that works out. His football coach counts on him though and I think he will get the nod on that position. We'll have to see about wrestling as that is his 'second' sport. He will have a leadership role in NJROTC also.
And congratulations to you on your appointment - after reading this forum for about a month, you really start to think you know people and your appointment news made me smile!

My NASS rejection letter came.

Good luck to all who will be heading out there.

I'll keep on keeping on here!

Sorry to here about the rejection letter Chackster. :(

But as for "keepin' on", that's the attitude. Maintain your goals and don't EVER sell your self short.

Good luck & God bless.

I wish I had known about this forum a while back. I waited until I got the letter instead of calling, because I didn't think of it. I got accepted to session 1. The return date of the 15th confused me since I got it on the 15th, and I sent the stuff off with a note about it on the 17th, then I called on the 19th and found out it was a "typo" Also got accepted to the second USMA SLS, so the first two weeks of my summer will be exciting.

As for "finding" this forum, I completely relate. This has turned into my "home away from home" :D

And yes, many have already become "family".

My letter was post marked 13 April 2006 and arrived on 21 April 2006. Eight days for a damn letter! Oh and on my rejection letter, they even managed to write the wrong date: 12 April 2005. They got the wrong year!

My rejection letter has the same date as you, usno -- "2005" and all.

For those of you with rejection letters to NASS- please be assured this is hardly the end of the journey.

I posted this elsewhere, but lots of candidates who received rejection letters for NASS get an appointment to USNA at a later time.

There are other ways of getting a bird's eye view of the yard- the summer sports camps offered by the USNA are just one way- so consider attending one of those in the meantime.

Best of luck!
