I know the admissions process is over (and I got in- Yay!) but I'm just curious to see what other applicants put on that odd Supplement on the Vassar application called Yourspace or something like that.

I waited until the application was like two days before it was due before coming up with the idea to just do a couple top ten lists of my favorite books, movies, athletes, etc. Actually turned out to be pretty fun to do too.

I actually didn’t put anything for the Yourspace. I sent in a recording of myself playing, and filled out everything else. It was just a bit too open ended, and I felt I could hurt myself more than I could benefit. I spent a long timer deciding which picture to send in too, decided to not go with the generic senior picture, but with something a bit different.

I sent in the first chapter of a book I wrote And my picture was one of me with half my face covered in skull paint, lol. Apparently seeming crazy won’t stop you from getting accepted!

S did (and thought) exactly as Vassar2015, including the picture. He didn’t have anything he was itching to say, so he didn’t say anything. It’s not a mistake to leave it blank.

I made a recording of me reciting one of my poems from a competition and played it over some pics from my life in high school (band events, vacation, plays). Called it “A Life in Pictures.” Thought it was cheesy but I guess they enjoyed it.

Sent from my SPH-D700 using CC App

I submitted my analysis essay for The Sound and the Fury from junior year AP English. Kind of boring and obviously no extra effort… but it was one of the best things I’ve ever written!

I also didn’t know that you were allowed to write more than 1000 characters for the actual essay. I wrote two great sentences and called it a day.

In my Yourspace, I put a link to a video of me acting two monolgues. Below, I included a 300-word essay about walking in the woods with my dog - an essay which I had used for other college supplements.

I sent them my bucket list with the story of why I made the list in the first place. For some reason I feel that the YourSpace got me in but I could definitely be wrong.

I sent a few examples of my black and white film photography, along with a short essay (50 words) about my love for photography. I thought that as a prospective science or math major, this sort of inclusion would represent my depth as more than just a “science nerd”. I was accepted, so apparently it worked!
