So when you're not in class, what do you do?

All about priorities… I’ll gladly live in a smaller house if it means I can afford to own a sports car and the gas to drive it for fun every weekend or two.

From reading this thread and others, it sounds like college students have A LOT of free time that they’re not studying, in class, doing homework, etc. So if I don’t goof off a lot of time like some sound like, it seems like there would be time to take an extra course and still have a little time…thoughts???

Yeah, you could. Maybe not. Depends on what kind of worker you are. I definitely put in more work in college than I did in high school although it hasn’t reached crazy levels. Might change when I take all upper-level courses.

The question is whether you WANT to take an extra course. I love learning but I don’t think I could handle more than the typical 15/16 credit load simply because I also really enjoy having my ‘me’ time.

I want to take an extra course, sorta because I feel I have to, in order to get done on time with a double degree (BM in Piano Performance & BA in History). Yes, I love learning too especially when it’s subjects that are interesting to me. I like some ‘me’ time too and some social life, but I’m not a person that’s going to go to a party Thursday thru Sat nights, even if I had the time because I’m not a party person or a huge social person. I like to have friends and everything, but not into doing tons of stuff every night, or several nights a week or anything.

Sorry everyone, sorta getting off the topic of this thread…didn’t mean to so much.

Well in that case you might as well go for it! See how you handle it, if it’s too much then drop the course.

@RioBravo, could you look at a thread I made about this a few minutes ago regarding my schedule, please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-life/1173166-freshman-schedule-help.html

Sorry for the topic detour…back on topic now!

I just go to the library.

You shouldn’t worry too much about it, everything will fall into place when you arrive on campus. For me, I use the free time I have during the week to get hw done, go to the library to study, eat, take naps, socialize, and work. Weekends are more relaxed and give you more time to chill with friends.

Honestly, a lot of the time, I’m just hanging out in my friends’ rooms, not necessarily partying. And those are actually some of my favorite memories from college so far- one time this semester, we all stayed in instead of drinking on a Saturday night and had family game night with Apples to Apples and it was a lot of fun. But that lifestyle also causes co-dependence haha. Like I’m away from my friends for 10 hours and I feel like I haven’t seen them in forever.

Agree with Karabee. One of the most fun times I’ve had was sitting in a room in a hostel with a bunch of fellow students just talking the night away, about any subject. Random trivial stuff, philosophical stuff, you name it. Much more memorable than any party.

You will find many time sinks in college. Get involved in clubs for your major (I know it sounds really boring, but you will be glad you did and they are actually fun) Look into open rush if you are thinking about going Greek, there is a fraternal organization for everyone.

Get your homework done… My semesters usually start out with me studying the first couple of weeks, then slacking off till the first round of tests… followed by intense studying for the rest of the semester. Dont know why but i guess I procrastinate too much.

There is always something to do and you can always go to the gym, play raquetball, go swimming, or just go hang out. You will find a group of people always hanging out in your schools coffee spots and they are usually a very social group (who rarely study)

You will find way too much to do, just dont put off the homework.

Homework, Video Games, and I try to chill- Thats what I did last year. This year i’m planning on joining about 2-3 clubs. I go to school out of town so I can’t keep the current job I have, I guess I might try to get another job at like a local mall this year. I’d love to work at AMC if I could swing it.

Hopefully this year I’ll be working.

Otherwise studying, or at least pretending to study. Usually this just means me sitting around and getting online, watching TV, doing whatever I want.

The cool thing about college is that when you’re not in class it kind of feels like the weekend all the time. The free time is weird at first, but you’ll get used to it.

If your college has a gym, take advantage of it!
