So who here got into any UCs with one of their English or Math IGETC req in progress in the Spring?

People talk about the stigma of having the critical thinking or math part of the IGETC still in progress in spring, but now that admissions have all rolled through, any anecdotal advice will help me out, as I am someone who probably won’t be done with the critical thinking req until Spring.

The key to the math in most cases is to have at least one other math grade showing on the transcript with a letter grade. This is especially true with UCSB. Other UCs may or may not let you complete it final term. It isn’t set in stone, but not advisable. English, at least one should be done by fall, preferably both.

Well, I do hear a lot that ucla doesn’t like to see that the math requirement is in progress. I applied last year with my math in progress to ucla and ucsd. I got into ucsd for computer science and was rejected by ucla. I had a 4.0 GPA and applied under linguistics and computer science (which only had about 25-30 applicants if I recall). I’m not sure if it was the lacking math that got me rejected from ucla. I got in this year, so I’d reckon that maybe it was the math in progress =/

Someone who got in this term UCLA has the math in progress, so I guess it all depends.

I got in to UCLA,I,R,SD,&SB with my second english in progress for spring. I needed it for my igetc

I got in with all 4 maths in progress. As Lindy said, it all balances btw your GPA, extra activities, personal statement, and your major popularity. You need to post more info about your stats…

@bizmlover what’s your major again?

@lindyk8 I’m doing a stats major. My major is not impacted so I guess that’s one of the reason I got accepted with so many major preps in progress.

@bizmlover 4 math in-progress. :-SS

I am taking my first math class this semester, Statistics. I got into UCSB, UCLA, and UC Berkeley.

I’m also taking my one and only math course this Spring, got in just fine everywhere.

@stevieindb do you have any math grade anywhere else, even remedial? Because I have an email from UCSB that even regular students won’t get in unless there is some other math grade. Maybe they changed that policy.

@lindyk8 I took a math class Winter 2015, Intermediate Algebra, which was going to allow me to enroll in statistics this Spring 2015 semester. However, I withdrew from that class because I was not doing so well. I took the CC’s math placement test and barely scraped by which allowed me to register for stats in Spring 2015. So I don’t even have a past community college math grade on file, just the in progress stats course I am taking right now.

Thx for info, @Stevieindb !

Got into all UCs with second writing class in progress.

@Doisys Every UC? or just every one that you applied to?

Most will let you in with second english IP. There might be one UC that wants one before (or maybe it’s just TAG). Can’t recall off the top of my head. Look at the UC Transfer Matrix. Google it.
