So who read Lord of the Flies?

I finished yesterday and since no one I know has read it , yet, I was wondering what some people thought of it. I personally hated it, with a passion. It was a waste of time. Then I read the foreword, or something like that, and it spoke about democracy and human spirit. That was the only thing that made me enjoy it. What did you all think about it?

Didn’t like it. At all.

I enjoyed it. It’s one of the few novels in my AP Lang class that I finished. The other two were Into Thin Air and Brave New World, both of which I enjoyed immensely. I do like reading, though.

handraise

I hate it with a firey raging passion. First, I don’t think that’s what would actually happen. Second, the premise is dumb. Third, I thought the writing was bland and bad.

So when I began reading it for school, I didn’t like it very much, but after reading the end and reflecting upon it for a while, I really appreciate it as a work of literature and I really like it’s messages on humanity and power and whatnot. It’s a very good book tbh.

My amazing 10th grade literature teacher really broke down the novel, so I really liked it. Plus, it really opened my eyes to human nature.

Not much of a philosophy person (really didn’t like The Fall), but I definitely liked LoF.

I absolutely hated the novel when I read it in high school.

Wasn’t the biggest fan

Sent from my ADR6300 using CC App

My copy just arrived in the mail today. Going to start reading it tonight for AP Lit’s summer assignment.

I read it in seventh grade, and I loved it. I’m not one for fantasy novels but I love anything with heavy philosophy. However, a certain scene at the end of the book was spoiled for me as my mom had often told us of when she was scarred when she read that CHARACTER died.

-------------------------------------------If it is to be, it is up to me…

It was my summer assignment two times already (two different schools) and I very much disliked that book. It was very boring (although full of messages if you analyze everything) but here’s the whole story: kids stuck on island, the end! Oh and don’t forget the gruesome boulder death!

LOL we had to read it for school last school year(Sophmore year), and i read maybe 3 chapters. The teacher showed us the movie so…yeah lol.

I didn’t think I could hate a book so much.

I think it was interesting if you relate it to politics. Can’t remember exactly what happened though, it was far too long ago.

I read Lord of the Files, where a bunch of highschoolers intern at a law office and soon begin to struggle for power as they pad their resumes.

One of the very few school books I actually liked. I thought it was interesting, it just shows how incapable 12 year olds are (:P), and it ties into the war that is happening on the outside world.

I personally thought they’d all die and become cannibals, but the real ending wasn’t that bad.

I like how it ties into the war. It was interesting, a good read. I always liked Piggy and Simon.

my copy got lost.
Or maybe I just threw it in the trash because I hated it so much…

Great idea, horrible execution. Plus, I hated my sophomore English teacher.

^yeah I didn’t like mine very much either, I finished it way faster then her ridiculously slow pace for our idiot class.
