SOAR Program 2015?

@sweetpuppy Oh god I didn’t want to make you feel bad! My goal wasn’t to pull the poverty card; if you’ve got the funds to visit and want to visit Rice, totally, by all means, do it. Didn’t mean to make things confrontational, super sorry.

@ethiopienne They sent me a ticket and everything already, and I think I heard back late August…? I don’t recall exactly when.

@jfleit18 Yeah I know the feeling – the pressure to visit and interview sucks, especially when you’re applying to a bunch of places and there’s a non-zero cost of visiting places.

@DressingIron So I wasn’t even accepted by the time that you received your ticket…so maybe they are doing this in batches?

I’m curious to hear if anyone that accepted last week like me or since then has gotten tickets? Haha, I’m so excited. A little over two weeks guys!!

@ethiopenne I think we got accepted the same day and I got my ticket confirmation yesterday. Maybe it got caught in your spam filter?

@dressingIron what time did rice schedule you to land on Saturday? I have a special circumstance so I am just curious.

I just got all my flight confirmation stuff today!

@NaijaBoy @dallascowboys1 @DressingIron I’m scheduled to land at 2:21 pm. What about you guys?

I’m scheduled to land at 1:55.

@ethiopienne @dallascowboys1

I’m landing at 2:30 PM.

@ethiopienne I land at 4:25

@ethiopienne my son’s flight arrives at 3:50.

FWIW - for those of you that haven’t spent time in Houston, the historical average temp for the dates of the SOAR program are a high of 87, low of 69. It tends to rain for an hour or so too.

So I inquired about the details on the program airport stuff, schedule etc out of curiosity lol. And the response I received was:

You will receive more details regarding contact information, what to bring and how to meet up with us at the airport within the next 10 days. We are arranging for shuttle service here in Houston to bring you to campus.

Just in case anyone else was wondering too (:

I’m landing at 1230

I’m scheduled to land at 12:11.

How nation-wide is this event? We are from Round Rock, TX - a few miles north of Austin. Also, does anyone know where the “only 60” kids figure came from?

I’m coming from Wisconsin!

I’m flying in from Nashville, Tennessee.

Did anyone get the email from Rice about like actually registering for Discover Rice…Are you guys paying for the brunches or no? @cerealwithoats @psywar @DressingIron @NaijaBoy

@ethiopienne The only time I saw an email about Discover Rice was before I even applied to SOAR. I haven’t seen anything since

@ethiopienne Yeah they haven’t sent me anything about actually registering for Discover Rice.

@psywar I’m coming from Pennsylvania.

Okay I’m thinking it might have just been a coincidence that I’m subscribed to some mass email list and also happen to be going to SOAR that weekend.

@ethiopienne SOAR and Discover are run jointly I’m pretty sure. There are some activities that we’ll do together
