Hi guys, prospective Bruin here looking for an honest answer to my question. While I find the UCLA campus beautiful, and can certainly appreciate the diversity (race, religion, etc.), one thing I wonder about is this “Socal mentality” that I keep hearing about- image-infused, superficial, materialistic and decadent people in Southern California, no offense to anyone on this board. A Northern California native myself that has never actually conversed with too many UCLA students, I have a couple of questions

Is this mentality present on campus? If so, how strong is it?

I think what might affect this is how many UCLA students are from Southern California?

rofl.
i was concerned about this too... i mean, turn on the TV and all you see about socal is spoiled teens in beverly hills xD
and while that may exist OFF campus, the people who actually go here generally didn't grow up as spoiled teens in beverly hills.
like everyone has said, the campus is majority norcal (like me) so we have a hella different attitude (okay, SOMEONE had to say it)
i'd be much more worried about the "socal mentality" at a place like U$C. i know that is also a generalization, but on campus visits, that's been my impression.
i really don't think it's an issue here at UCLA.

well, norcalers don't have a lot of options when it comes to the UCs.
there's cal, or davis. and sorta merced.
socal has... EVERYTHING else. so while few socal ppl go to a norcal UC, a lot of norcalers are bound to come to a socal UC, the best of which is LA :)

maybe 30% greater bay area nor cal, 10% san gabriel valley so cal, 15% OC, 5% heavily minority LA (like east la, south la), 5% san fernando valley, 10% greater san diego, 15% small town california (way north like eureka, bakersfield, modesto, imperial valley etc.) 5% OOS, 4% south bay, 1% west LA :)
