Soccer as a junior?

I played AYSO (girl’s) soccer for 2 years and quit when I was eleven. Athletic-wise, I was moderately good, and in my fourth and last season, I tried out and played for my city, although I was pretty much one of the worst players on the team, and my team was pretty much one of the worst in the area. Even still, I wouldn’t say I was untalented, and even playing during PE was fun and exciting for me.

Currently, I’m a sophomore at a relatively big high school. I’m planning to take 5 AP’s next year, as well as run a club and help out as a co-praise leader at my church. By then, I’d have taken my SAT so I only have to worry about college apps, gpa, and my extra curricular. However, I feel like I lack in the EC area, especially since the other really smart kids who are taking many APs are doing sports as well.

So here’s my plan: Train for one to two hours Monday-Friday at night during the summer to work on my touch and shooting, etc etc. Try out for JV during the winter, and maybe even Varsity if I feel confident. I’ve heard that my school’s soccer team is pretty competitive, but other than that I virtually don’t know anything else about my school’s girls soccer team.

Is it too time-consuming for my schedule? Unnecessary? Is it better if I just don’t use my time on training, trying out, etc?

How do you know you “would have taken your SAT”? Have you already taken it? If you like soccer, you should do it - being active is important, and most of us (myself included) don’t do it enough. Don’t just do it for the college apps, though, high school sports are really time-consuming (at least at my school) and it’s not worth it to put yourself through hours of an activity you don’t really enjoy. How hard are your 5 AP’s, and do you have enough experience taking AP classes to know you’ll have enough time left over? You also might want to consider SAT Subjects if you’re planning to apply to selective schools. Keep in mind that you might want to improve your SAT if your plans change.

Good luck, and remember to do what you love doing - colleges will see your passion shining through!
