I was wondering if anyone has any legit intel on the social life at Barnard…are parties accessible? Do kids have fun? Do they seem happy? Or is it all just like stress?
I commented about my daughter’s social life at Barnard on your different thread. Yes, parties are accessible because Barnard and Columbia are basically one big campus sharing most of the resources. My daughter eats at Columbia dining halls, uses their gym, studies at their library and attends their parties.
She has lots of fun within Barnard and with Columbia student body.
I don’t know about stress but the students who are drawn to Barnard (or NYC) seem to enjoy busy life style - always on the go. They enjoy having lots of things to do. Some people thrive and some people get overwhelmed.
My daughter is careful not to get sucked into the stressful life style. She tries to manage her time carefully to accommodate classes, part-time job, study time, social life and down time. So far she is doing well and is very happy at Barnard.
Hi! I’m a current freshman at Barnard. Parties are definitely accessible. I guess the only downside is that if there’s a party going on in any of the Columbia residential halls, you need someone who lives in that building to sign you in. There are frat parties as well that happen and the bar scene is also a thing here (but you would need a fake for that).
People have fun and the stress culture is definitely there but just like the poster above me has stated, there are ways not to get sucked into it. I make time for friends, events and some down time.
