Here, you can check everyone out yourself - all the 2010 graduates. Just zoom in! I’m over on the left in a green top- next to my husband in sunglasses; my son’s in the middle in a black robe and cap (actually, only the top of his face is showing). Can you find us? :D

fineartsmom - LOL, you just described grungy Seattle to a T so my D will fit right in! Except she is more quirky - think “interesting” modified thrift wear - than grungy.

bear in mind it was CFA she described to a T :). I am in Seattle this summer interning and all around it certainly feels classier than CMU/Pittsburgh. As far as modified thrift wear… as long as that doesn’t stand for “cape” it shouldn’t be a problem

“Yeah- what is it with high school boys who seem to think that one school has a different statistical representation of the general population than another. That just is illogical.
I guess we might say these comments are racist? Afterall since 27% of the CMU population is Asian and 17% are international students- perhaps questions about the looks of CMU women are subtle forms of racism? There’s no other logical explanation for the persistent questioning about the beauty of CMU women.”

No, I don’t think it is racism, it is the assumption that women who are very intelligent are unattractive. Which is obviously untrue, but I believe there are far greater than the usual percentage of extremely intelligent women at CMU than at many colleges. And quite often brilliant people are not as obsessed with superficial issues such as clothing, hair and makeup. No doubt the typical CMU female is just as attractive as any other statistical sampling, but is it all important to them to optimize their looks and spend time fixing themselves up as opposed to studying and other activities…when the odds are in their favor enough that they’ll still have plenty of male attention? I’m just guessing here, but it does seem logical.

A guy I work with told me, gosh, your son should go to Ole Miss! There are so many pretty girls there (apparently going to college to find a husband). Uhh…I have a feeling that whatever woman my son ends up with is going to have alot more going for her than just looks, and isn’t hanging out at CMU just to find a husband. You don’t have that kind of girl there, in any major.

“work hard play hard” Business majors barely have any work compared to SCS/CIT/MCS/CFA-ARCH. If you can handle an AP courseload you should be able to pull off at least a 3.5 and still have time to party every weekend. The surrounding area is great oakland/shadyside/sq hill has lots of great restaurants/things to do. I personally love the “people” at CMU.

yep. steelersngator sounds it up pretty well.
Business itself in the first 2 years is extremely easy compared to the other majors. However that being said, it gives you more opportunity and time to pursue an additional major or minor in some of the harder schools such as CIT or CS. It probably will not get hard until you pick a track in your junior year.
Also, you’ll soon find that partying every weekened(friday, saturday night and ocassionally thursday and sunday nights) as a freshmen can be extremelyyy tiring as well. Waking up in the morning after those nights is never a fun thing to do.

I can’t speak for the theatre art people in CMU, but from what I’ve seen, it’s a very very intense nerd zone and many people both girls and guys are not looking for sex there, and thus most will not resort to fashionable dress or neat haircuts or make up.

I personally don’t mind, but if sex is a HUGE priority for you, CMU and other technical schools, especially Caltech may not be the right choice for you.

I met my future husband in CMU in 2008. We were in the same Master’s program. In the second semester our relationship got so hot, we could not stop having sex all the time. We would do it in the CMU basement in women’s bathroom. All of that was going on in the middle of a crazy workload, homeworks, and projects in all our courses. We would be doing our assignments, and then we would take a break for initially 15 minutes, which sometimes would turn into 3-hour hot sex in the basement bathroom. Once we almost got caught, when somebody came into the bathroom to pee. We thought she would open the shower curtains and discover us in the middle of our act. Thankfully she didn’t. That was the best time I and my husband have fond memories of. Thank you CMU for getting us together. We’ve been together for 5 years now, married for 3.5 years, and expecting our first baby this year!
