How is the social life at Carnegie Mellon. Are there fun people that aren't all nerds and socially awkard?

If you search the title of your own thread, I guarantee you will find at least 10 threads about the exact same topic, all recent. :p

Hey kate, did dating.misc.market ever take off?

Do we seriously have one of those now? I haven’t needed to check, haha. But if we do, I’m sure it’s doing well.

Gribbin26, I would make sure that you spend an overnight at your final choices to really see for yourself if it is a fit for you socially. It is such an individual decision. Perhaps sign up for the Sleeping bag weekend.

I double mum’s reply. My S had visited once and was so so on attending. After the sleeping bag weekend it became his first choice.

I should be transferring this summer, so the answer to your question is yes.

if your a social person you will have no trouble having a social life here
there are parties every weekend and a social crowd that attends
yes there are a lot of people that don’t have a huge social life, but it doesn’t really affect yours

when i choose to come here, the social life was one of the only things i was worried about, but from week 1 it has been fine

i hate when people hate on cmu’s social life

You gotta a problem with nerds?

College is all about fit-- you’ll need to visit and see if you feel you would fit in and enjoy your time here. There are people here who love technology- does that make them a nerd in a pejorative sense of the word?
People love their technology and they work very hard all week and play hard on the weekends.
It’s not a division 1 school, there isn’t a heavy drinking and random pick-up culture-- but there are 6000 students here and enough people do drink and engage in that stuff if that’s what you need.
There’s a list of 200 clubs/student organizations - if you don’t see what you’re looking for and just like to party- you can do that too here and anywhere.
CMU students are very engaged and passionate about their classes and their extracurricular activities.

Ur opening statement has an unflattering view of the student body. Yes, there are some anti-social hang in my room and play video games non-stop types - aren’t there those everywhere?

visit and decide for yourself

Agreed, it’s definitely about how you fit in. Even looking at different high schools, social lives and how people are thought of change a ton. I go to a school (public) where techies tend to be very in. Maybe the question is more, “Would you have a social life?” Anyway, a social life is far more than a party culture.

I’m a nerd who likes intramural basketball, the robotics club and game design. I am also in the Kiltie Band. I play SC2 more hours than I should but with other humans doing so in the same proximity.
I shower at least once a week but don’t have time to floss.
I like to eat half off.
I am a frat pledge this semester too.

I spend 60 hours or so a week on my homework.

My skin is tartan plaid.
