This question is all inclusive: parties/ extra curriculars/ sports/ dorm life

also what are some stats of ppl applying ED 2

also, what are the consequences of getting accepted ED and not going at pomona (I know Pomona is extremely competitive, and if there was an opening for some one there would be a ton of highly qualified candidates to fill the gap) I am just having second thoughts about my decision to apply ED 2- not just because financial reasons, but also I am not sure if its the right school for me- I really like the UC's, but just the fact that there's so many students sucks.

If you're not sure about Pomona, don't apply ED. If you get accepted ED you will have to go there. I'm not totally sure what the consequences are if you break the contract - does anybody know?

I already applied ED 2

The eighth circle of hell.

Transfer after first semester.

Basically, if you back out of ED you'll be blacklisted by the school you applied to.

They will call your GC, request to know the other schools you're applying to and call them and tell them that you backed out of a binding ED agreement. They will also most likely be prone to reject other students from your school, possibly for a few years in the future even, simply out of protest.

Do not break an ED agreement unless you have a family emergency, the don't give you anywhere near the right amount of money (though you shouldn't apply ED if money is this big of a deal anyway), or something else random and extreme happens.

Basically, be positive in your decision to go ED.

The parties are amazing in the 5 Cs. Although 80% of the good ones occur at Mudd. Beware of Pomona parties.

what Robotab is true. if you back out, it will affect your chances at the other schools that you applied to.

atomicfusion--beware of pomoa parties?? haha why?

I've had bad experiences. The phrase "Pomona party" has always spelled doom. 3/3 times I have ventured very far from the safety of Mudd, into the heart of Pomona, to find out that:
1. the "party" never existed in the first place
2. some RA broke up the party before it even started
3. the party has about 50 people and cards
So I've made a promise to myself to never go there on the weekend for a party the rest of the year. Am I right or are there actually good Pomona parties that Mudders never hear about?

Oh yeah. Actually I went a 4th time but it's not really Pomona's fault. My friends and I were all drunk back in September and upperclassmen led us at 3:30 AM into that courtyard area at Pomona where the food store is. They kept telling us there was an amazing party going on. Then when we got there and sensed that the party had taken place hours before, they told us that this was meant to be a lesson to never go to Pomona for a party.

In my experience, the "party scene" at Pomona is primarily hanging out. Sure the school sponsors parties with kegs, but they card pretty strictly at those events, so a lot of minors end up pregaming quite a bit before going out. I go to Pomona, but I've gone to a lot of great 5-C parties at Harvey Mudd, like the Foam Party or Long Tall Glasses. At Pomona on weekends most people like to have small parties in dorm rooms with their friends. Although that's not to say that there aren't any good larger Pomona parties - there are, but private parties are still your best bet since school-sponsored ones are generally not very interesting.

Oh, and by the way, if you are unsure about your ED commitment, if you contact the Admissions Office NOW rather than after decisions come out, they probably will advise you on your options. I think if you back out well before you actually get admitted, you still might be admitted RD and you and your school won't be "blacklisted."
