I wanna know if there is alot of stuff to do social at the university as in parties , activites, sororities, Sports and are sororitiesthe main social scene, is there a really big social life or is it just a very strong emphasis on academics

It would be hard to post something that made it clearer that you didn't read or even search the board before posting this bad forum etiquette, but it is an important question.

Anyway:

There is tons to do. I never found myself with free time where I did'nt have at least two or three interesting options. If you want frat parties, they are there, as are apartment/dorm parties, intramural sports games or free plays, music, and talks.

There is no one main social scene. The frats host the biggest parties, but probably a solid majority of the undergrads dislike them, and only about 9-10% are members of frats and sororities (which DO NOT provide housing, by the way).

My answer to your last question is yes. There is a big social life and a strong emphasis on academics. You will spend a lot of time doing work, but you will also have a lot of time to go out with friends. These things will sometimes overlap - academic conversations, talks and the like are not hard to find.

That's a great way of answering that question, kodama. I agree with you completely, especially as somebody who has never been to a frat party but frequents small, informal parties/gatherings in dorms and apartments. I seem to always have things to do, or things I could do... just walk into Harper or Cobb and look at the flyers-- there are tons of ideas right there.

Did you mean to say, though, that sororities don't have houses, while frats do? By the way the sentence is written, it sounds like neither have houses.

Are "normal" college parties reasonably prevalent on campus too? By "normal" I mean excessive amounts of alcohol and lots of people dancing :) ?

And more and more dancing>?

i would like a student's answer to universitybound's question

...but from my experience on my overnight: yes.

Frat parties generally have good amounts of drinking and dancing. Apartment parties usually have less dancing and better drinking. Both are pretty typical college parties, I'd say. There's often flip cup or beer pong too.

Conan O'Brien visited a Chicago frat party, here is what he found (about a third of the way into the video): Conan And Andy Drive The Desk - Video - WMAQ | Chicago
