Social Life

I wanna know if there is alot of stuff to do social at the university as in parties , activites, sororities, Sports, and are sororities the main social scene, is there a really big social life or is it just a very strong emphasis on academics

For the caliber of school it is, Penn has a varied and active social scene. During the week you'll find a lot of..sober events, such as concerts, lectures, club meetings, random activities, basically anything you could imagine. I get like 10 emails a day about stuff happening on campus. You could come here and never go to classes and get a great education from these events. The Roots and John McCain were both here this semester. I'd even recommend going to random professor lectures because they're usually very interesting.

There's also a bar scene during the week, mostly for upperclassmen and the more social freshmen. I would recommend this, as its really easy to get a fake here, and its a slightly classier but more fun alternative to house parties. Also you run into the same people week after week.

Frats have parties on Thursdays, Saturdays, and sometimes Fridays. In my opinion, the Thursday parties aren't too great because the more fun people go to bars. Friday is a pretty chill night on campus so there aren't many parties. Some of the frat parties are good while others are really lame, but at least the alcohol is always free. Sometimes they're in their houses and sometimes they rent out bars/clubs downtown. There are certain nights/weekends like Halloween and right before finals when there are a lot of parties and they're usually really good.

Sports aren't a huge part of the social life. It's pretty common to go to football games on Saturdays during the fall, maybe a "tailgate" party beforehand. Basketball is pretty big as well and lacrosse is sort of. Other than that people don't really follow sports. People that play club sports are pretty into them while intramurals seem dead. This is an active campus though. People go to the gym allll of the time and when the weather's nice you'll see people fooling around with frisbee, lacrosse, whatever outside.
