Hi!

So Rutgers is one of my top 5 schools and I'm visiting soon. I just wanted your opinion on the social scene there. How active is the community in sports games? How are the parties and are they mainly frat? Is there a lot to do? Just like your general opinions would be awesome to !

Thanks!

Hello! I’m a rising sophomore here at RU. Football games are pretty fun, and a decent amount of students go. It’s especially packed for the blackout game and homecoming game. However, since we’re in the Big 10 this coming year, there’s going to be 10x the amount of energy and RU RAH RAH haha Now about the parties…every Thurs-Sat. night college ave will be littered with party goers. Buses on these nights will be jam packed, and are known as the drunk buses. Frats will throw down and houses around the area will throw down, so you’ve got your frat parties and your house parties. Halloween is literally…my god it’s something else. I have never seen college ave so crowded before because students from other universities come here to party. Cars don’t even have the right away when it’s a green light cause there are so many people crossing the street at once lol Only bad thing about parties here is if you’re a guy, you better have a lot of friends who are girls cause we have a whole ratio thing. To get into a party, there has to be a certain number of girls to one guy. If a guy doesn’t have the required number of girls, they either don’t get in or they pay to get in. Girls on the other hand can get into any party they want. Now about stuff to do, Rutgers is super awesome when it comes to boredom because you can’t be bored haha we’ve got the city of New Brunswick with all the restaurants you can go to with friends, hang out, walk around. Then you have clubs and greek life. If you join greek life, you will NEVER be bored.

Now about general opinions, honestly, I freaking love Rutgers. I definitely feel like I made the right choice, and I am so proud to be a Scarlet Knight. I met the best people here, and generally, most people here are pretty nice. I had an amazing freshman year, and I honestly don’t think it could have turned out any better. It may have also had to do with me coming in super excited and wanting to make friends with everyone. I mean, college is what you make of it. Some other pluses are Rutgers really is very diverse, and we are a great research university (if you’re thinking about going into research). We have a lot of resources; just make sure you take advantage of them.
