Social Scene if Not Going Greek?

I was admitted for fall 2013, and I'm not interested in the Greek System. So my question is how easy is it to make friends without going Greek, and what is the non-Greek social/party scene like? I'm also not heavily into collegiate sports (don't flame me), so I'm a little worried about making friends and having fun. I'm outgoing and love to socialize, just not into what I hear is the typical UCLA party scene.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

I was wondering the same thing (ill be a freshman this fall). From what I hear its what you make of it. If you live in the regular dorm halls it’ll be easier and more accessible to make friends. But since you say you’re already outgoing you shouldn’t have much of a problem anyways.

This is a good question. I’m normally kind of laid back and quiet at times, so my question to any UCLA students or anybody that can answer my question, are people approachable at UCLA? For example, can I walk up to a random UCLA student and say hi or converse with them? Sorry if this is a weird question. lol

I lived in Saxon and am pretty quiet, so the dorm social scene wasn’t one I got into. From my experience, most of my friends came from my classes and who I sat by, especially during the down time before class starts (the ten minutes or so between the previous class and your class) since there’s not much to do otherwise. Also, since I’m south campus/life science A LOT of people had the same freshman classes so it was easy to bond with people as you migrate from class to class and sit around before going in. Other than that, try to get involved in extracurriculars that interest you (there is a huge activities fair during zero week plus the flyering on Bruinwalk) and chances are you’ll get along with people there.
