Do the athletes pervade the social scene?
Is everyone pretty inclusive and down to earth?
More liberal or conservative?
A mix between preppy and artsy?
Any thoughts on Colby’s social scene

Athletes often host parties, and each team usually has their own dance - i.e. “Soccer ball” or “Tennis ball.” That said, there are plenty of parties for non athletes, and there isn’t much of an athlete/non-athlete divide at parties. Being an athlete makes it easier to make friends but you can do just fine if you put yourself out there!
Generally, yes, everyone is pretty inclusive. Like anywhere, Colby has people that you will find distasteful in some way. But the vast majority of people I have met are great people.
Definitely more liberal (Bernie was big last year) but there is definitely a significant (though small) proportion of the student body that is at least what most would call “fiscally conservative/socially liberal.” There are few socially conservative people on campus.
More preppy than artsy - but I wouldn’t say either one is too pervasive. I’d shy away from trying to classify Colby in that way.
The social scene is great once you learn how it works. Get involved in clubs (especially if you aren’t an athlete!) and make friends! And don’t be hard on yourself if you have a bad day/night and don’t feel like going out - it happens to everyone.
I should say, the social scene isn’t for everyone. If you aren’t a big fan of drinking and partying, it might be tough at first to find a group of like-minded people. They’re there, I promise, you just have to look a little harder. And keep your mind open to the drinking/partying. Work yourself into it - you don’t have to stay out til 3 AM every weekend and drink yourself to oblivion to participate. Have a couple beers and meet people.
