Social Scene?

Hi everyone,
This may come across as superficial, but I promise it's not intended to be such.
I have been incredibly interested in Pomona lately, and have done my fair share of research exploring the school's qualities. I have found it easy to find opinions on the academic qualities of the school, as well as some opinions on Pomona as a whole. However, I have been unable to locate information on what students really do socially at Pomona. I read about parties and everything, but are these your typical college parties? Or literature talks? (Not to talk down book clubs, but a valid question) Frankly, I am impressed by what Pomona has to offer, from academics to exposure to the world. I do not have the slightest doubt that I will excel academically if I attend Pomona (Considering the slight chance I have of getting in). But my question lies in what do students at Pomona do for fun? Is it easy/do students go to the city often? Any answer would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I personally like Pomona’s “social scene”. I am an incoming freshman for the class of 2016, but both times I visited I really enjoyed myself. The Claremont Colleges know how to throw parties and you will find yourself meeting tons of other people from the other 5Cs. And, you can leave the Claremont bubble and go out to LA if you need something crazier every once and a while. To answer your question, I don’t think Pomona lacks a “social scene” at all.

Check out the life and style section from Pomona’s student paper “The Student Life” (http://tsl.pomona.edu/articles/lifeandstyle</a>). Also search other threads in the Pomona College section - this topic has been addressed before. Some of the “highlights” at Pomona include nighttime snack, Ski/Beach Day, and hug a puppy day when puppies are brought to campus just before finals.

Well, as a current student at Pomona, (Class of '15), I thought that I can give you some insight. :)

Well, I know for me, Pomona is a lot of fun. As people have mentioned, there are parties. (You actually can go out 5 days out of the week.) However, if the party scene is not for you, then there are other things you can do. I know personally, I hang out with my spiblings. We just walk into each other’s rooms and chill. I play videos games, watch movies, etc.

Of course there are a bunch of other things you can do. I highly recommend going to Ski/Beach Day. That was so much fun. The ASPC has tickets for Six Flags and things like that. Pomona also has a lot of talks and concerts. You’ll definitely find something to do.

I wouldn’t worry about the social scene too much. I’ll be happy to answer any more questions.
