Hey Guys,
I just visited Pomona, and I really liked the campus and the academics. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the social scene (parties, events, etc.) was at Pomona, especially with the other colleges in the area.
Hoping you get feeback from actual students/alumni as well but just giving you a parent’s perspective. Pomona as you know is not a school you go to if you want to have greek social life or a social life revolved around tailgate parties/football games/going to sporting events. However, that said, plenty of kids have a very active social life including parties every weekend within Pomona and also the claremont consortium, going to a play/speaker on campus, low key dorm parties, kids going into LA for concerts, entertainment, an active consortium outdoor club with camping/hiking trips on weekends. The school also sponsors events called 47 things to get the kids off campus going to sporting events, museums, plays in LA. For my S and his friends he tells me there is no pressure to drink and that there are plenty of parties with no drinking. For my S it is the perfect social scene. He also says its pretty typical for kids to sit around low key get togethers on weekends just hanging out and discussing politics/philosophy. He says he never gets bored there. He is also very active in a travel academic competition team that spends some weekends away and he socializes a lot with that club when they are on campus with dorm parties. Its pretty typical he says for classroom discussions to spill out into discussions over dinner, etc. Because of the 5-C consortium and over lapping clubs/classes its easy to meet kids from the other 5C schools if you choose so you can expand your social scene to 6K students if you choose. There is definitely an intellectual vibe about the school but he says kids never sit around talking about grades only what they are learning and passionate about.
there is also a thread called Pomona vibe you might want to read.
