Hi all CWRU students, alumni, and CCer’s,
I was wondering what CWRU is like for a psych major- I have heard they get a lot of criticism for picking an easy major, as opposed to an engineering degree or picking the pre-med path. Does anyone have any info about this?
My son has an economics minor, closer to a major, actually, and was never criticized. He is a math major. Arts and Sciences are truly strong at Case. We were just on campus at an Arts and Sciences awards ceremony and all the students seemed to be really happy with their majors, including psychology. One senior we spoke with, bachelors in psychology, is headed to a masters program in mental health at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Look at this graduate school, the Mandel School of Social work. Its very well known. So social science is king at Case I would say! (along with physics, biology, and chemistry ). Sciences, including psychology, are truly the best at Case Western, although engineering is very strong and good ranks too.
There is great support for social science undergraduate research at Case. My son was able to work with the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland last summer on a statistical analysis of crime data. It was an economics research project funded by SOURCE.
Finally the Heath Science campus, being built now will include social work students too–

Psychology is a popular major. There will always be people who look down on other people’s majors, but I haven’t seen them very much in real life and I don’t think it’s something to worry about. You can also complete pre-med requirements as a psychology major (or any other major).
Wow @halcyonheather, thanks a lot for the info! How did you go about finding that specific info-graphic (or whatever it is actually called)?
