<p>Anyone know much about the sociology dept?</p>
<p>Also, I'm a nontrad, so I was wondering how much life experience is weighed in admissions, or if I should take some college classes. I'm a transfer anyway, if that helps.</p>

<p>You are probably not getting an answer because UVa has so few sociology majors. My son said every non-engineering student he met in the first week said they were headed to comm school or pre-med. Of course, interests diverge over time.</p>

<p>Lucky for you, Veritas86, I am familiar with the Sociology department at UVA. I’m a Government major and I was also going to minor in Sociology… until I got accepted into the Curry School. I also have several friends who are SOC/SWAG (Studies of Women & Gender) majors.</p>
<p>So, what do you want to know?</p>
<p>If you are curious to know if the classes are fun… Yes! They are fun. From my experience, SOC/SWAG/Politics classes generate a lot of interesting discussions, where the professor ultimately just serves as a moderator.</p>
