some college narrowin search engines

anybody found some good ones?

College Board's website has one that worked pretty well for me
Princeton Review's website also has one

but this is a touchy topic around here for some reason
people tend to refute those websites' accuracies.

I really hate to be glib and trite...but its true:

The best search engine is looking in the mirror and asking yourself what YOU want out of a college experience:

location, size of student body, campus feel, campus culture, state, private, sports, your interests academically, your interests socially, dorms, programs, friends comments, rural or urban, etc. Grab a hold of the Petersens or Barrons directory in Barnes and Nobles or your GC office and just take an hour and flip through the directory by state and make your list....20, then 10 and so forth. Read up on the schools, ask around.

Search engines are blunt instruments and can give you a vague idea. College Board supposedly has the most accurate SAT scores to use....but I also like the directories...and of course when you get down to the 10 schools you like the most, the CDS data is usually online at their websites.

If you are a senior you better get on the move as January 1 is the cutoff for a lot of selective schools, Jan 15 for many others and not much is out there after February 1. If you are a Junior then your search is timely and you are off to a good start.

The most important thing is to find schools where you fit academically, socially, culturally, etc. Match schools are your best bet. Good luck.
