HI all. I have never applied for any scholarship. I have this freight of getting started to apply for scholardship because I have this idea that once I enter competition of the scholarship and then win. Now the organization will send a notification to me to go to some ceremony to make speech about me getting the money and my future plan. I have this kind of mindset that prevents me from even trying to apply. I just want to know is this true? Or once I get notified about winning, I automatically receive money in my checking account and need not to show in public doing speech or something? Please help me getting this confusion off. Thanks.

Money gets sent to the school.

I’ve never heard of a student having to give any speeches…just send a thank you.

Thank you! I feel suddenly relieved!

DD had to talk at several awards ceremonies, but they were for local scholarships - two for Kiwanis and two for Soroptomists and one for one other group. She knew about one ahead of time, but was on a school trip so I had to do it - I just read her application essay. For the others, it was more of a “come up and say a few words” type of thing and luckily she is good at that because she was not pre-warned. I doubt it’s the norm outside of small town, local things though.
