some info.....

This may be a little too soon, but wanted to offer some information, as this usually needs to be arranged well in advance.

On of the to do list that must be completed by every plebe in order to advance in rank to 4th class is a visit to their high school where they are expected to do a presentation on USMMA for the students.

Arrangements are made with the guidance dept. at their former high school. Probably the best time for them to do the visit is while they are home on semester break in October.

Your child will need to make the arrangements with the school himself (herself). USMMA provides the literature and info for the presentation.

My son made the arrangements via e-mail with his former guidance counselor, who was happy to accommodate him.

USMMA now has that great promo video, which would serve as a helpful tool to use at that presentation.

Thanks for the "heads up"; there is so much of this to remember and put on the calander. I know my son was wanting to do this but is good to know they have a video to help him out.

Do they have to give the presentation to the whole school or just a class? He was planning on visiting the NJROTC class when he came back in October.

Not too early Prayerfulmom. I had a question about this a few days ago. Don't know about other cases but the Jamz visited with his old NJROTC class but did his visits over the Xmas holiday instead. He stayed all day. Then another high school across town asked that he come speak to their NJROTC classes. Fall leave begins on 10/27 and ends on 11/5 at 6pm. No time is given when the Plebes can leave on 10/27 on the regimental calendar, so there is some confusion there. In most cases, the kids cannot leave before 4:30 pm. It is really a good idea to have your kid get his/her haircut at home before returning. Hard to get into the barber shop with all the Mids returning from the break or sea year as well. My kid learned the hard way when his flight was delayed for four hours.

I suppose it may depend upon the school.

My son was a given a room to set up the literature, etc. It was announced over the intercom that an alumnus was available to provide information on the USMMA. He was well received & had a pretty good turn out. The guidance counselor had to sign something and critique the presentation.

His school did not have JROTC.

Good advice JM about the hair cut.
