Some Out of State Questions:

Hey guys, after getting a very warming response to the Diversity Thread, I am completely SOLD on TAMU!

It is my number one choice if accepted :). I have three questions, that I wish to know the answer to, and I feel you guys can help me!

1) Think I have a chance?
Don't know how hard it is getting in OOS but here it goes:
HS does not rank,
gpa is 3.71/4 unweighted,
SAT is 1920 and 1250 CR+Math: 590 CR/660 Math/670 Writing

ECs:
Volunteer at Research Lab at University (40 Hours)
Volunteer at Temple (350+ hours)
Volunteer at Hospital (75 hours)
Clubs:
Key Club (Community Service)
DECA (Business Club)
FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)
International Club
Spanish Club
Interfaith Club

Sports:
Varsity Football

2) My Parents received job offers to Houston AFTER the Dec 1st deadline, unfortunately making me miss the scholarship deadline. Also made it so I could not even apply to UT Austin :(. Is there any money I can still get? Our EFC is about 45k, so I am not expecting any financial aid. If I could somehow get OOS tuition waived.

3) My father is moving to Texas in April, with my mom and I coming after I graduate from HS. Would I still be considered OOS? Say I do NOT get any aid and pay full OOS tuition my first year, my sophomore year, would my tuition drop to in-state? My family will have lived in Texas at that point for over a year!

First year you are definitely OOS. Second year depends on how the state defines residency. Check the TAMU website for details, or call.

Do you have any interest in the Corps? If you do, go to a Corps weekend. They have scholarship opportunities that could be enough to qualify for in-state tuition if you get one.

Call the scholarship office. There may be other options available.

It’s better to call the adcom, honors, scholarship office(s), to get the information directly. Make sure you get the right information and you meet the deadlines now. You are now in a critical timeline. What we could provide you here in this forum is our opinions. But what matters is what university official tell you and A&M policies. Get this directly from horses mouth! Pick up the phone and call!
