Hi,
I’ve been getting financial aid and fee waver in college. But I just transferred to CSULB, and yesterday at my orientation, I was told that there would be no fee waver like in college. I haven’t renewed my FAFSA yet, so I’ll have to pay for tuition on my own. So if I enroll in a class, then decide to drop it, would they automatically update my tuition cost? Right now I have to pay about $3000 in total, for 4-5 classes (I’ll drop one, and take four). I wasn’t aware that universities don’t take fee waivers. So anyone who applies for FAFSA pays for their tuition with the money they receive, right? Probably dumb to ask, but just making sure I am not doing anything wrong. Usually with the waiver, I use the money for other expenses.
Second question is, while renewing FAFSA, it asks me if I am in my first, second, or third year of college, or graduate. student. Does it matter that I just transferred? I started attending college in 2012, so I guess fourth year? I don’t remember what I put last year.
If you qualified for a BOG fee waiver for your CC, why don’t you qualify for a Cal Grant? You need to ask.
Usually you determine your status by the number of credits you have. If you have 60 semester credits that transferred, you are likely a junior.
BOG waiver is only for CCC students. University students can get a Cal Grant. Are you cal grant eligible? Do you know how to check and did you talk to a transfer advisor at your CCC?
Yes, year in college is determined by credits which make you freshman, soph, jr or sr. If you are transferring in as a Jr (normal CCC transfer) then you are a 3rd year.
Cal Grant, huh? I think I do qualify for that. I don’t remember how to check that, but I did before, and it did say that I am eligible for Cal Grant. I didn’t talk about it to my adviser at college, since I thought I can just update my FAFSA, or that information will be transferred to LB as well… That was really bad on my part.
So, apparently I am a junior. I am not sure what I put the previous years, hopefully there won’t be any conflicts.
