I’m applying to summer@brown, and I have a few questions. Do they make your free time after class structured? Like, are you allowed to just leave the campus and go into providence whenever you like, (obviously not after curfew…) or is it very organized and strict? Is it really a true college experience, or is it more controlling? I’d love to be able to eat out whenever I want to, and go to the mall / movies / etc. in my free time without pre-organized trips. As long as you are back by curfew, can you basically go where you like?
I am also going with two friends, who are both taking the same class as me. I know there’s a really strict policy about room mate requests, but I was wondering - does that extend to asking to be in the same hall? And, actually, how strict is that policy? If we called them, could we get them to arrange something? I know it’s for “my own good” so that I make new friends and have a better time, but I’ll make friends anyways. We all will. We’re quite friendly, and really looking forwards to it! We just want to be in the same room (and if that doesn’t work out, at least the same hall)
Also, what is the trip to New York like? Again, are you just given free reign?
Finally, I was also wondering if the selectiveness of the program has changed. I know that in the past they basically let everyone in…is it pretty much the same this year?

Hi, I can’t answer all your questions but I can answer the question about the selectiveness. I just applied for Summer@Brown last week, and they accepted me within 3 days. I am a fairly average student with A’s and B’s, and the fact that they accepted me so quickly tells me that they’re not very selective.

u can go into providence whenever u like provided its not during ur class or after curfew. they do organize a few activities for u but they arent compulsory and u can choose not to attend them. id say attend them tho as they are the best opportunities (along with ultimate frisbee obviously) to socialize with ppl outside ur dorms. u can eat out wherever u want and it doesnt have to be in the dining halls (except for the first day maybe). there is curfew and no alcohol / drugs are allowed inside. i dunno about the roommate thing. many of my friends took a trip to new york / boston but i didnt so i cant really tell u much about that besides the fact that its not compulsory again. the ppl are really friendly and nice with a few exceptions. hope u enjoy!!!
Source - attended Summer@Brown :)

Do you know if they contacted your educational reference? I applied a couple days ago. I also applied for the Dean’s scholarship. Do you think anything about that
Thanks in advance(:

erm… no way to tell the exact number but there were a whole lot of ppl there. there were around 25 in my course tho. ur not gonna b short of ppl unless u try to b secluded.
