some questions...

how is the engineering department of NYU? I heard that it's a joint thing with another university..is it true?
and...does applying for financial aid have bearing on int'l applicants? Do they give a lot of financial aid to int'l apps?

"Because of the very limited amount of financial aid available for international students, our general expectation is that international students must be able to provide the entire cost of their education through their own resources. As a result, requests for application fee waivers will not be accepted for international students. "

<a href="http://admissions.nyu.edu/applying_for_admission/index.php?page=international_applicants%5B/url%5D">http://admissions.nyu.edu/applying_for_admission/index.php?page=international_applicants</a></p>

NYU doesn't give alot of financial aid to anyone, but international students are especially at a disadvantage for it. They do have a need blind admissions policy, so it will have no effect on your admissions decision, but it will effect whether or not you are able to enroll.

so..in order for an int'l to get aid...s/he must be extremely qualified..somewhat as qualified as for ivies or something like that...right?

I'm not really sure about how it works, but I don't think your academic stats have any affect on your financial aid except when it comes to scholarships (not need-based aid, though). I'm not sure what the qualifying is for institutional funds, but there aren't alot of them to go around for anyone, and certainly not for international students as NYU has noted. I would assume that they go to the brightest stars in the international applicant pool, but I really don't know. I would encourage you to either join the NYU admissions message board and post your questions there for someone who can better answer them or call or write the office of financial aid.

Internationals at NYU are only eligible for merit scholarships, not need-based aid. There are a very limited number of merit scholarhips available to internationals, so it's not something to count on. Even at that, if you get the maximum award, it's likely to only cover like 1/4 of your total costs. When you apply as an international, NYU requires that you complete a form which states that you can afford to pay the entire cost of your education. You have to provide proof through bank statements or tax returns. There are a few types of loans available to internationals, though, which you may want to look into.

so if i can't pay all of it, I can't apply?

You could get loans, like matth said.

They're pretty generous with the engineering program - that's what my fellow engineering friends (and I) think, at least.

If you want to know more about the program, visit <a href="http://www.nyuengineering.com%5B/url%5D">http://www.nyuengineering.com</a> and/or contact Joe Hemmes at CAS.

Matth! You seem to know so much. In every thread, you are so knowledgeable! Do you have any idea if GSP acceptances from the Steinhardt school have been sent out?
