Some Questons about NYU?

1.) Hows the food on campus?
2.) Hows the social life? Is there a lot to do?
3.) How much money do you spend per week
4.) Are sports events fun (Basketball?)

5.) How many classes do you take and on what days?
6.) How much free time would you consider yourself to have?

I don’t attend NYU yet but I have a few friends who do, and since I’ve asked these questions myself, I can answer them fairly accurately.

  1. Like most colleges, there is really good and really bad food alike within the university. However, meal plans come with dining dollars which can be spent on many nearby restaurants and private restaurants in the dining halls, so there is a huge variety of food available, especially if you're able to spend money outside of your meal plan.
  2. NYU doesn't have much greek life or a campus, so it may be somewhat harder to make friends compared to other schools, but if you want to make friends, you will, just due to the sheer size of the university. As for things to do... it's NYC!
  3. There are a lot of stories of people barely scraping by at NYU, but truthfully, if you actually purchase a meal plan that corresponds with your needs and are responsible with money, any budget you have shouldn't be too much of a problem compared to any other school.
  4. NYU is notorious for its poor sports rankings, so yeah...
  5. Most people take 4-6 classes per semester, and you can choose what days they are on. I have a friend in Stern who has all of her classes on one day with a 6 day weekend!
  6. Free time varies on what time of year it is. Everyone I've talked to say that they have plenty of free time to do leisure activities and still maintain good grades and study, just be sure to spend the time that you do allocate to homework and study efficiently.

That’s impossible. You do not have a friend at Stern who has a 6 day weekend unless this person is taking only one class that meets once per week. 95% of classes meet twice a week especially business classes.

@adreamer22 Dining dollars do not work at nearby restaurants–only at locations of chains like Dunkin Donuts, Peets and Starbucks that are in NYU buildings. There are also some chains in the Food Courts of dining halls.

And it would be impossible to do a full schedule in one day of classes.

@qwertyzxc @uskoolfish Several of them told me that several local restaurants accept them.
As for the schedule, she’s a sophomore at Stern and was one of the first who were allowed to choose classes, and purposely decided to make all of her classes on one day.

@adreamer22 Nope. No use giving info that is second hand from friends. Feel free to look it up on line if your’e not a student and but feel you want to answer.

A bunch of stores and restaurants near NYU do take campus cash–you use that for laundry, too. But that has nothing to do with your meal plan. It is different and separate from the dining dollars which come with meal plans. You put $ on campus cash so you can swipe it like a credit card. You can automatically set it up to add $ from a credit card.

Dining dollars can only be used in dining halls, the on campus Peets, Dunkin and Starbucks or in campus food courts or an on campus grocery.

As for taking classes on just one day, that is impossible to do. Most classes meet twice a week. There are some 1 day a week classes at Stern, but they are 3 hours long. Do the math. It’s not possible to do a full schedule in one day. And the class schedules would make that impossible.

@uskoolfish Then I was misinformed about the dining program, sorry about that, but she genuinely is taking all of her classes in one day this semester.
