In addition, I feel that I submitted strong & effective personal statements + additional comments regarding how I corrected the mistakes I made, improved my results, developed better habits, etc.

I would appreciate it immensely if anyone could offer me any feedback & reassurance that I have a good chance with any of the above UCs.

Well, it doesn’t matter what your Spring 2011 GPA is. By the time the spring semester is over, they have already made a decision. Those aren’t the hardest majors on earth, and those aren’t the toughest UC’s to get into. You’ll be fine. You might not get into all of them with a 3.31 GPA, but I’d say that you’ve got a good shot at getting into most. I also applied to UCSB. I guess we’ll be finding out in a few months. Good luck!

You won’t get into UCLA (just being realistic). You’re a shoe in for UCR. As long as you TAG’d successfully into UCI, UCSD, UCSB, and UCD you should be granted admission (keep in mind, if they find one loop hole or something you forgot they will most likely reject you so double check all TAG guidelines). And make sure you stay above a 3.0 after Fall and Spring semester.

If you’re not doing admission by exception, they won’t use your personal statement for admission purposes.

Anthropology isn’t an impacted major here at UCLA. The average admittance is around 3.1, so I say you have over a 50% chance depending on how well you do this fall, if your major pre reqs are completed, and how strong your personal statement is.

If you don"t mind me asking your gpa has significantly jumped which is wonderful because grade trends are very important but what caused your gpa to suffer in the beginning? The reason I am asking is because if you meet the criteria you have the right to request failing grades (d’s and/or F’s) to not calculated into your final gpa as long as these courses were completed at a California Community Colleges.

He’s referring to academic renewal, I believe. Unfortunately it can be a lengthy process to have it granted, and you have to have it done before applying. If you had received academic renewal, you would have marked AR on your application for the courses that had been academically renewed. Also, the policies for academic renewal vary between the various CCCs–some make you remove even good grades from semesters you’ve renewed, while others allow you to cherry pick just the worst grades.

Here are some additional details that hopefully might help improve my chances:
A.) Californian resident
B.) I have completed most of my heavy-duty science prereqs
-General Biology I & II
-General Chemistry I
& I will be completing General Chemistry II and Calculus in the Spring semester '11
C.) I explained what happened to my grades during my initial semesters at the college & how I improved myself, established more effective habits, & improved my overall attitude and approach towards my education–all in the additional comments section

In addition, I put a lot of effort in both my personal statements, ensuring that they were solid & crafted with excellent detail and care

Thanks again for the responses everyone. I appreciate it immensely. Best of luck to all of you who applied as well
