Thanks Karp4170 for taking the time to put this thread together...it must have taken quite a bit of your time.

DD and I will be attending the College of Communications orientation day on Feb. 9th but we will be staying over the 8th and 9th. We will definately check out some of these events!

Check out the newly opened State Theatre too. It's right in downtown state college and has lots of events scheduled through the spring.
http://www.thestatetheatre.org/events.htm

toneranger-

I am glad that you mentioned that the State Theater has finally opened. It has been a long rennovation project. (If I remember correctly, they were working on it when S was a junior in high school, maybe even the summer before his junior year???) When I was at State College at the end of December, they were painting the interior.

I forgot this one:

11) Go golfing at on the White or Blue course http://www.psu.edu/golfcourses/

Karp, you've outdone yourself! You are a font of information. Thank you; this is so helpful.

Karp, great list. In addition for the more or even somewhat adventuresome, you can hike up Mt. Nittany or hike, backpack, cross country ski, fish or just plain hang out along the Mid State Trail or Stone Valley Rec Area. PSU is in a great location if you are into the outdoors.

wrestlerdad's post made me think of a great summer orientation program offered by PSU- it's a one week program called ORION. They hike up Mt Nittany, camp under the stars every night, and go mountain climibing or canoeing (all a 10 minute drive from campus). My son signed up for it last summer (reluctantly) and LOVED it - met two good friends that he still hangs out with. He came home talking about signing up next year to be a guide. Quality program and it's cheap. Great way to meet friends before you start. Plus it gives the students a good orientation to the outstanding nature around them. Here's a link with more info (sign-up starts in the spring):

oops - here's the link
http://www.psu.edu/admissions/whypsu/student/slorion.htm

here's more info

http://www.psu.edu/summersession/orion.htm

Looks like they still have the dates from the 2005 session on this page (?) :p

I thought I would bump this up before it gets lost forever. New additions to the list are encouraged.

I saw someone asking about PSU for the non-partier on another thread, so I'm bumping up again.

This is a great thread: let's try to keep it alive! Thanks, karp4170!

The school of music has recitals or concerts almost every day, most of which are free or very low cost for students. The students who are performing really appreciate having an audience...sometimes there's even free food afterwards!

where can you fish over there? anyone here fish and know what type of fish are there?

someone we know mentioned the the fly fishing club - here's the link

http://www.clubs.psu.edu/up/flyfishers/psuff_events.htm

Also, there apparently are other fishing clubs too. Find the email contacts and send them a question or two about fishing.
Good luck!

Some other things to do:

Get together with friends and make some popcorn and watch a movie on cable TV.

Go out for cereal and cartoons at State College's newest eatery--
