I'm coming in with a 5 on AP Spanish Language but just a 4 on AP Spanish Literature. So, it says that I get 1 c.u. for "Spanish 220" because of my 5. However, "Spanish 220" doesn't exist.

Which Spanish should I take? I've read over every part of the website five times and my pre-major advisor is more clueless than I am.

I want to complete the minor, and possibly the major in the future, and these two are "required" for both, but it doesn't mention anywhere whether or not you still need to take them if you've already got the fake "Spanish 220" under your belt:

Required courses (must be taken in the department at Penn)
Spanish 212: “Advanced Spanish Syntax”
Spanish 219: “The Contexts of Hispanic Civilization”

Help? Please? There has to be someone on here who came to Penn with a 5 on Language yet still kept studying Spanish. Gracias.

P.S. I know to contact the department if I can't find answers otherwise, but this does seem like a common situation to be in so I'm asking on here first.

That would seem to make a difference. It implies that you are beyond Spanish 202, which is a prerequisite for a lot of other courses, but not 212. Logically, you would have to get credit for at least 140, since the prerequisites for 140 include a really mediocre SAT II score. The only logical possibilities are that you get credit for 140, and have to take 202, or you don’t have to take 202. The latter seems more probable.

In any event, as inexcusable as it is that Penn’s communications aren’t clear on this, you shouldn’t be guessing about the answer. Or even relying on other students’ experience – policies may have changed from last year to this. Call the department. You know that’s the only answer.

And, when you call, you should ask whether you get to count your “210” credit as one of your 200-or-higher-level credits for purposes of meeting the major/minor requirement.
