So I've been trying to put together a packing list for my freshman year this fall. I know there are tons of lists online and at different stores and such, but that's not really what I'm looking for here. What's that one item you forgot to bring? (or if you're magical and didn't forget anything, something you're glad you remembered?) thanks! :)

haha it is bound to happen. Even if it is something small. I forget what I forgot my freshman year. hey thats what stores are for.

ummm as far as an essiential, and there are many, buy some medicine, for head aches, colds, etc. you dont always think about it when your healthy but when your sick and cant get access right away, you will wish you would have bought some. something to consider

@TheVet: I definitely hadn’t even thought of pain meds at all. thanks!

haha no problem. learn from my mistakes

I forgot a sewing kit and found myself in desperate need of one several times. One of the seams on a long dress got halfway ripped, and I had sew it back together. My roommate also had to borrow it many times that semester.

A fan (a lot of dorms don’t have AC and it can get REALLY HOT)

Extension cord (there were a total of 2 outlets for each roommate and I had like 7 things to plug in)

Medicine (yea I forgot to bring this too)

Filing box (you have way too many different papers with random stuff in college, so its good to have some sort of organizer to put your papers away- like put your academic counseling paper in one file, job papers in another file, class papers in another file, etc.)

Overall, it really isn’t a big deal if you forget anything. You can always go back home and get it, or if you live to far away, have your parents ship it to you in a package.

Also, your school store probably has most of the stuff too so you can always just buy it there. Even if your school store doesn’t have something, you can just go a couple blocks from campus to find some kind of major store (unless your college is in the middle of nowhere).

Duct Tape & Super Glue. You will be amazed at how much you use them. Also go ahead and buy a bottle of White Out. If you are like me you will not go through one your whole college carer, but it comes in very handy when having to copy things and no one will have any.

You also need a couple rolls of quarters and $50 of $1’s. I know that everyplace seems like it takes your student ID card or your debit card, but you will need them.

Forgot my TI 84+… you think an engineering major would remember his calculator

I somehow brought a telephone plug instead of an ethernet cable.

Forgot my Nintendo DS. Don’t use it a lot or anything, but there are times when its nice to kick back in the dorm and just play a video game for a while. I also forgot my jacket. I wasn’t able to go home till november for Thanksgiving break. I had to buy a new one to protect myself from the cold.

watch it with the extension cords. Most schools don’t allow them. Go for a surge protector with a long cord instead.

Tight…my TI-89 is the first thing going in my bag.

A second set of sheets is good to bring, don’t forget your phone charger, and bring extra batteries. You’d be surprised what they go into.

Have extra ethernet cables in case you drop your laptop with the cable in.

I forgot school supplies, lol!! And the stores were all sold out!

I am pretty much putting a list together on my phone the second I think of something that I may forget and it includes small things that I will need but will probably not think of in a list. I am positive I will still forget some things but definitly not to many. Well… hopefully not too many…

An extra blanket in case the dorm room gets too cold at night.

Check and double check that you bring cold/flu medicine.

Yes! I forgot those too! Whenever I was sick I never felt like going out and getting medicine, and whenever I wasn’t sick I never wanted to spend the money so I just suffered all year. This year I’m coming prepared.

My biggest regret is how many sets of sheets and towels I brought. You only really need one set - you throw it in the wash and use it again.

Ditto on the medicine and blankets.
