What did you forget to bring to college?

So, hopefully, us freshmen can learn from your mistakes :D

I hear that a can opener can be a real life saver

The “A to Z: What To Bring To College” thread that is pinned in “College life” has a very extensive list that you should go through. Make sure that you’ll use it before bringing it, for example, if you’re a guy you might not need eyeliner, but it’s up to you. If your meal plan doesn’t cover every meal you’ll eat, make sure to bring supplements, i.e. cereals (breakfast) soups (lunch) and rice (dinner) are all versatile and last a long time.Major-related materials might help, for example, don’t forget your instrument if you’re a music major. The last thing I can think of that isn’t on the list is clothes, which are fairly obvious. A set of dress clothes can help for formal situations, for example, music majors may need dress clothes for a performance.

I forgot my phone charger on move-in day. I go to school fairly close to home though, so I was able to get it by the next day.

One of my roommates forgot clothes hangers. The other roommate didn’t bring any food with her initially.

As ABlankInfinity said, make sure to check the “what to bring to college” thread and double check that you have everything. And that you don’t do what I did and forget something obvious.

I forgot to bring bath towels after bringing them home at winter break once. I noticed after taking a shower :S had to dry off on my dirty cloths lol

Agree about the stickied list. I forgot to bring my pocket knife which I realized when I was lost in the woods for 9 hours. The next day I bought another one along with a cheap sleeping bag.

Apart from that, I didn’t forget anything. Since all of my life’s possessions either went with me to college or ended up in the trash can, I couldn’t leave anything at home.

I didn’t forget anything that I remember, but I definitely lent people surge protectors and Ethernet cords because they either forgot them or didn’t think to bring them. Most things, if you forget it, you can always get one at school (or have your parents send it to you if it’s expensive or can’t be bought easily), so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Shoes… I had to turn back ~45minutes into the trip.

I am not sure how many people use 3 hole punches but I was in need of one so bad that I visited home specifically to pick it up (among seeing parents, etc.)

^Hmmm, I bought one of those my first day freshman year at the book store because I thought I would need it…
have not used it in my three years

Q-tips and food and drinks

I packed the car the night before and had a list for the last minute things, I’d need to grab in the morning. In the end I forgot to bring my pillow despite it being on the list, luckly I realized I forgot and we were less than 5 minutes from home.

Germ-X and white out. Like no one washes their hands up here. It is nasty.

An umbrella. Seriously. I need to go buy one, but I live in a different state, the bookstore doesn’t sell them, and my nay other option is to walk to the bus (in the rain) and go tet one at the mall.

Socks.

Even though the list is stickied doesn’t mean the items make it on your journey.

We forgot to leave our son’s SS card and/or birth certificate which he needed to secure his work study job. Thank goodness for USPS priority.

Don’t forget a plunger, a carbon monoxide escape mask, condoms, edible massage oil that gets warm when rubbed, a lock for your laptop, a gps protection plan for your laptop, pepper spray, and a fire escape ladder if necessary.

Popcorn/mixing bowl. You will be surprised how often you will use it.

Some dorms cannot handle wireless printers. Bring a printer cable. However, make sure you buy your cables and cords online because the stores treat them as extremely high profit items.

Some wifi systems get overloaded at times. Bring an ethernet cable.

A basic tool set is also a good idea.

Shoe rack.

Sandals for the shower, Guitar Hero: World Tour for the Wii (I did, however, bring the controller), my electric razor, my running shoes, and various snacks to use my dozens of packs of peanut butter with.
