Son applying to Brown...appreciate any input

Hi All,
My son is a junior in HS and is going to apply to Brown as his first choice and several others as back up. Hopefully I can get some feedback from people that actually got accepted to Brown as well as others as to whether you think my son has a chance…I know this is totally subjective…I am just wondering:
His stats:
4.0 GPA…has a 99.61 average
31 ACT composite score with a 36 in Math
SAT II’s: Math 1: 760, Math 2: 750, Bio: 790
Taking a few AP classes, along with Syracuse University (SUPA) Bio (has a 100 average)
Mock trial club
Varsity Tennis Club
Volunteers at local hospital every weekend(for past 2 years)
Recently was accepted for internship at local large hospital Medical Examiners office and has already been to autopsies
3rd in his class out of several hundred
Uncle (my brother) is a Brown alumni and MD
Multiple academic awards
Has a very full senior year coming up with all AP and other college level classes
He wants to get into medicine and is very strong in both math and sciences
He will have a number of excellent recommendations from local doctors as well as teachers

Any input is appreciated.
Thanks
Rich

I think your son should consider applying to PLME. If he does ED and shows a lot of interest with his stats I think he has a pretty good chance of getting in at least for undergrad. I also feel like (although I’m not an admissions officer) and you apply ED to PLME and also check the “I’d still like a binding decision to Brown even if I don’t get into PLME” box, it shows a very big amount of interest in the school. I’m not an admissions officer though so I could be WAY OFF with that.

great idea, thanks

The uncle likely won’t help very much (generally, they care about siblings and parents, but not really about any family more extended than that). I don’t see anything suggesting he doesn’t have a chance, but I would not say that he’s “likely” to get it because so much of the process is either subjective or involves information that we couldn’t know or guess at. If he’s highly interested in med school, PLME is something to consider, as the previous poster mentioned. Do make note of the changing policies, though, for this program and make sure it’s something he’d want.

If he writes a compelling essay, I would think his chances are good. Getting into PLME is a crapshot for ANYBODY. My only real piece of advice is to start the essays for both the common application and supplement early. You can look forward to a very hectic fall. Don’t let him waste those summer months.

pm me, i have some application tips. been around a while :)
