Son sent ungraded essay to Princeton instead of graded. How to rectify?

Title. Just wondering if this will be an issue. He attached the ungraded essay. Thanks.

If a graded essay is required, see if you can go on their portal and it provides a place to add documents. If so, you can add there and maybe delete as well.

If not, I’d email a copy to your admissions officer with a simple note. Not sure if it’s the same essay - and you have the graded copy…or not.

But I’d simply write (have him write):

I inadvertently sent an ungraded copy of an essay. Can I please replace it in my file with the graded essay.

If you need graded, you have no choice. I think people worry about - if I messed this up, will they reject me.

I highly doubt it - we all make mistakes and this is just an oops. Anyway, if you need graded, you won’t get in without. Of course, it’s Princeton - it’s impossible to get in anyway.

But I’m sure an I oopsed - can I sub this in note will more than suffice and no harm will be done.

Your son should contact (call and e-mail) the admission office as soon as possible for advice. Did he submit an ungraded version of a graded essay, or the essay sent was not graded?

Just call or email and ask. Unless the portal lets you delete and add (I have no idea).

On the OP’s question of “Just wondering if this will be an issue…”, I think that it is not unimportant: Princeton is test-optional for the 2021-22 admission cycle and for those who choose to send in test scores, the writing portions of the tests are no longer required; therefore, the graded paper fills in to calibrate the quality as well as the rigor of the teacher and the class, and of course, to assess the applicant.

I think it’s important. But I think with guidance they can swap it in with no harm. I don’t think it’s a reason to reject. The rejection will happen…well just bcuz it’s Princeton. But not because if this of corrected.

My kid did not have any comments or grade on the actual paper submitted to Princeton last year (comments were given orally and the grade was just recorded in Canvas). They just included a description of the comments (as remembered) and reported the grade, and was accepted.

Perhaps just include a note along those lines - I think the application allows updates, no?
