Hi,

It has been an exhausting week and we (my hubby and I) finally collapsed after driving sonny to NYU yesterday. I am going back into NYC Friday night since we could not fit everything in one carload. :( (Good thing we live within driving distance to NYU.) Sonny will be busy until after 10:30 PM Friday so that is the time for me to make the second delivery to the dorm (honestly, to avoid the Move In Day traffic).

Keep in mind we basically got everything together for sonny without having to go shopping in NYC, before you freak out thinking about our two trips. I imagine many of you Freshmen and Transfer students are very busy trying to pack and consolidate everything.

I want to wish everyone well as the new academic year is fast approaching. I have fond thoughts of many posters. I want to extend special thanks to those who have informed me, including MissAmericanPie, csh, sansri88, AoDay, woodendynomite, SallyNYU, and, of course, parents like milkandsugar et al. Sorry, my list is not meant to be an exhaustive one since I learned so much from so many and frequently from the posters who ask good questions.

I wish you well as you are readying yourself for the new year. Do well (academically and socially), stay healthy and happy, no matter what you are engaged in! TO A VERY GOOD AND SUCCESSFUL YEAR TO ALL OF YOU (students and families alike)! :)

Thanks! Good luck to you and your son too!

Thanks, dreamormoney,

I am glad to know your situation got worked out. You do well and savor the college experience, even with all the hard work, OK?

Congrats! I’ll be moving in during “rush hour.” How exactly did he get to move in early? I have a friend who is already moved in as well. Is it for a scholarship program?

Hi, Billy! Sonny moved in early because of Project Outreach, which is keeping him on his feet. So far, he says he loves everything about the experience of NYU; the setting of the city (he has moved up from the oh so boring suburbs; I’m so envious!); the dorm (Founders, with a view of lower Manhattan from high up); and, of course, freedom from mom and dad :). Hehe, I had to interject the latter thought.

I want to give advice if I may. Please try to time your move in later if that will help you avoid most or all of the crowds, as MAP had recommended. I saw 4 move in bins at Founders on Wednesday. It took us two trips on the elevator with one bin to move in sonny’s stuff, plus a third trip with a move in cart of our own! While they may provide more bins on Sunday, 8/29, I cannot imagine the wait for the elevators and available bins for 600+ kids and their many belongings.

Thank you so much for the advice, evolving. We’re definitely bringing a hand truck of our own because I’m not sure we’ll ever even get to lay eyes on a luggage cart with all of those students moving in. Glad to hear your son is loving the city! I think my parents might be a bit jealous of me too Project Outreach sounds awesome; congrats on the early move-in and avoiding those crowds!

Congratulation! We will be making our annual trek tomorrow, this time we are taking our 2 cars to avoid a second trip in. Daughter is so excited to be going back. Go figure. When we were college kids, we we couldn’t wait to go home.
